Key Objective(s): The Risk Manager is responsible for oversight, facilitation and day-to-day administration of various claims for American Dream and related entities. This position also provides consultation and advisory services to management and staff regarding risk management, insurance, claims made against the Company and claims that the Company makes against other parties.

Requirements

  • A degree in commerce, business, or related discipline, or formal technical training and education in claims management.
  • A minimum of 7+ years’ experience in a similar corporate office environment in a related position dealing with claims management.
  • A strong business acumen and proven communication, presentation, settlement negotiation and relationship building skills.
  • Experience working in a corporate environment dealing with executives, lawyers and courtroom decorum and working with various management and business styles.
  • A high level of comfort dealing with potential litigation situations with an ability to maintain professionalism and diplomacy in the work environment when faced with potentially contentious situations.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills complemented by the ability to work independently and make decisive decisions when required.
  • Excellent typing and computer skills including a strong working knowledge of MS Office programs Word, Excel and Outlook as well the ability to adapt to other software programs as required.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of professional industry designations such as: CRM, FRM, CIP of FCIP would be definite assets for the position.

Responsibilities

  • Receiving and administering third party claims and other incident and loss reports and working closely with our Security Department to conduct investigations and collect and preserve evidence.
  • Opening claim files as claims arise and if required attending incident sites in person. All incidents should be investigated and reported on by the Company’s Security Department.
  • Assessing loss or damage and determining the most appropriate process for managing and settling claims.
  • Preparing, coordinating and recording a variety of correspondence and documentation including litigation files and insurance policies while ensuring confidentiality and timelines are met and adhered to and required follow ups are completed.
  • When appropriate, assigning claims to external Law Firm to assume conduct of claim.
  • Recommending, negotiating and processing the settlement of third-party claims including establishing loss reserves.
  • Preparing and obtaining final release documentation for claim settlement.
  • Pursuing the recovery of costs and expenses incurred.
  • Working with internal and external partners including adjusters, insurance brokers and lawyers, to maintain, negotiate settlements and close claim files in a timely manner.
  • As required, representing the Company at settlement conferences, mediations, small claim proceedings and other judicial proceedings.
  • Administering the development and use of a claims management system.
  • Reviewing insurance and indemnity contract clauses (commercial leases, event contracts, etc.)
  • Acting as an insurance subject expert resource for all departments.
  • Developing and providing reports to analyze trends and identifying strategies to mitigate against future loss or damages including total cost of claims.
  • Providing Quarterly Bordereau Reports to our insurance broker on a quarterly basis.
  • Requesting and tracking certificates of insurance required for various divisions and activities.
  • Providing oversight and administration of Company vehicles, including registration and insurance, MVA claims, and maintaining drivers’ rosters.
  • Completing other responsibilities as required.
