This full-time role is about making an impact on people's lives and the future of clean energy. You will leverage your skills and experience to be part of an innovative team and make a difference for our customers. As a Risk Inform Engineer in Lynchburg, VA (remote work will also be considered), you will be part of the proven team in the Probabilistic Risk Informed Business Line in the Installed Base Business Unit. This group analyzes components and systems in nuclear power plants to ensure their safe performance. We use statistical analysis and data to evaluate component failure rates and the impact on plant operation and safety. This work provides valuable insight for plants regarding the safety and economic impact of components and systems.

  • Provides technical support related to development of Probabilistic Risk Assessment models and Risk Informed applications.
  • Responsible for planning / conducting a complete task or portion of a larger project under the direction of more experienced staff.
  • Performs standard engineering work requiring application of established techniques and procedures to carry out tasks.
  • Provides input to technical proposals and engineering advice as needed.
  • Completion of a BS in Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, or a related Engineering discipline.
  • At least 3 years of directly related experience.
  • An advanced degree may substitute for related years' experience.
  • Good communication skills including the ability to comprehend and convey detailed technical data (meetings, email, presentations, customer deliverables, etc.).
  • Ability to develop networks and maintain good interpersonal relationships.
  • Works collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Strong advanced problem identification and problem resolution skills.
  • Displays informal leadership characteristics.
  • Questioning attitude and practices self-checking.
  • Advanced level of Microsoft Office and business unit specific software tools (ex. CAD, FEA, CFD, etc.) and computer programming skills.
  • Provides technical support related to development and quantification of Probabilistic Risk Assessment (PRA) models.
  • Experience with Risk Informed Applications, including Surveillance Frequency Change Program and 10 CFR 50.69.
  • Experience with proposal writing and client interaction.
  • Experience in Owners Group and/or industry Working Groups.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate and work across various engineering organizations.
