About The Position

The Risk Division is a team of specialists charged with managing the firm's credit, market, liquidity, and operational risk. Whether assessing the creditworthiness of the firm's counterparties, monitoring market risks associated with trading activities, or offering analytical and regulatory compliance support, our work contributes directly to the firm's success. The division is ideal for collaborative individuals who have strong ethics and attention to detail. Credit Risk (CR) is responsible for managing the firm's credit exposure to its trading and lending counterparties. Leveraging its extensive expertise in financial, credit and risk analysis, CR ensures that credit exposure to our counterparts is managed within the firm's risk appetite. Staffed with more than 360 professionals, CR operates through 12 different offices around the world and credit professionals work closely with many areas of the firm. Given this structure, CR professionals gain diverse financial experience and a broad perspective on how the entire firm functions. The interaction with numerous departments and the range of projects that ensue allow for a challenging, varied and multi-dimensional work environment.

Requirements

  • 5-10 years work experience in credit risk management with demonstrated experience in Natural Resources (with focus on oil and gas).
  • Significant experience in investment banking products including loan products and derivatives, with particular focus on reserve based loans.
  • Demonstrable track record of independent decision making and the ability to steer client and business negotiations.
  • Strong familiarity with regulatory rating requirements and application of such guidance.
  • Strong knowledge of lending documentation and ISDA (incl lien secured) / CSA, NAESB, Gas EDI and other commodity agreements.
  • Must be able to lead and motivate engaged and diverse deal team, providing guidance to and supervision of junior members of the team.
  • Must be able to communicate at the most senior levels.
  • Ability to handle adversity and to push back to improve terms to mitigate risk.
  • Proven ability to effectively engage with regulators and internal control functions including Internal Audit and Credit Review.

Responsibilities

  • Assess the credit and financial strength of the firm's Natural Resources and Infrastructure borrowers and counterparts by performing fundamental credit analysis, with focus on Oil & Gas.
  • Review and approve loan transactions and determine appetite and regulatory rating.
  • Analyze the credit implications on NR / Infrastructure clients of various financial transactions including debt, mergers and acquisitions, restructuring and repurchases.
  • Coordinate with Global Banking and Markets, Legal, Operations and Compliance departments to approve derivatives business and ensure appropriate documentation, limits and risk mitigants to protect against a counterpart default and minimize potential losses.
  • Analyze the risks inherent in the products GS transacts, including lending and derivative products with a focus on Commodities.
  • Perform sector analysis regularly in order to assess portfolio concentration or trends.
  • Monitor, manage and report exposures at a counterpart, product and portfolio level.
