About The Position

The Risk and Safety Manager at Texas RioGrande Legal Aid (TRLA) is responsible for overseeing the development and management of a comprehensive Risk and Safety Management Program. This role ensures a safe and healthy workplace for employees, clients, and visitors by implementing and maintaining an environmental health and safety management system. The manager will coordinate risk management activities, workers compensation, loss control, and claims administration, while also overseeing emergency response programs and vendor insurance compliance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or 4 years of related experience in the field (preferred).
  • Ability to travel and possess a valid Texas driver's license.
  • Professional Risk Manager (PRM) certification (preferred).
  • Proficient with computers and Microsoft Office 365.
  • Ability to work with Excel spreadsheets.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively under direction.
  • Strong ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Familiarity with environmental hazard identification methods.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and file new and renewal applications of various insurance policies.
  • Update insurance policies during the policy period, including additions or deletions.
  • Maintain communication with insurers and agents for up-to-date insurance information.
  • Handle claim submissions and filing processes for property and liability incidents.
  • Conduct assessments, reviews, and self-inspections for Risk Management across TRLA offices.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain TRLA policies and procedures for environmental, health, and safety regulations.
  • Conduct periodic safety inspections and recommend changes to improve safety policies.
  • Interpret building insurance coverages and communicate changes to relevant managers.
  • Serve as a resource for risk management issues across TRLA activities.
  • Design and coordinate risk programs to control exposures and minimize loss.
  • Collaborate with Contracts and Procurement Specialist on bid specifications and selection processes.
  • Review and update policies to include new legal requirements.
  • Investigate accident/incident reports and compile findings for corrective actions.
  • Develop and coordinate Safety, Health, and Environmental training with management.
  • Work with Facilities Manager to ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety requirements.
  • Manage claims administration and settlements, including worker's compensation and client claims.
  • Maintain communication with employees on worker's compensation injuries and coordinate return-to-work plans.
  • Monitor safety standards and environmental compliance methods with management.
  • Oversee risk administration and maintain records and reports related to risk management.
  • Assess potential risks in offices and recommend mitigation strategies.
  • Develop annual budgets for TRLA insurance policies and maintain a security and safety plan.
