About The Position

The Risk-Safety Specialist plays a crucial role in coordinating occupational safety activities for Brazos County employees under the supervision of the Risk Manager. This position involves providing professional support in training, claims administration, loss prevention, safety inspections, and insurance policy management. The specialist is responsible for making supervisory decisions regarding incident management and drug and alcohol testing, ensuring a safe working environment for all county employees.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent of 4 years of experience in safety management or related fields.
  • At least two years of experience in an administrative capacity, preferably in occupational safety and health.
  • Completion of OSHA 30-hour course within 3 months of employment.
  • Valid Texas motor vehicle license.

Nice To Haves

  • 2 or more years of experience in the field of Occupational Safety.
  • Knowledge of County government organization and services.
  • Certificate in Safety Management (CSM) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP).

Responsibilities

  • Inspect facilities to identify and document job hazards, preparing assessment reports and recommending preventive and corrective measures.
  • Monitor and manage claim activities related to occupational safety.
  • Analyze job safety trends and loss history to measure the effectiveness of the Safety Program, preparing reports for internal and external use.
  • Plan, develop, collect, and adapt instructional materials for safety and health programs, coordinating and conducting county-wide training.
  • Assist supervisors and department heads with safety training upon request.
  • Conduct field inspections to identify hazardous conditions and procedures arising from county operations.
  • Investigate and analyze work-related incidents to identify causes and potential hazards, making recommendations for improvements.
  • Research federal, state, and local occupational health directives to ensure compliance and assist in developing policies and procedures.
  • Maintain records of loss control training programs and other related documentation.
