About The Position

The Transition & Career Specialist will provide end-to-end leadership on training and instructional projects using research-based practices that promote self-determination, transition planning, career preparation, and meaningful career experiences for learners who are blind, deafblind, or low vision. This role will design and facilitate high-quality, innovative digital and in-person learning experiences that help Monarch RISE project participants explore the competitive integrated employment (CIE) potentials of the Monarch, collaborate with peers and experts, and translate their learning into actionable career strategies. This is a highly collaborative and impact-driven position for someone who enjoys connecting people, ideas, and opportunities to help others succeed. This is a temporary, grant-funded position with the potential to transition to a permanent role upon the conclusion of grant activities, contingent upon continued funding and satisfactory performance. The expected duration of employment is from October 1, 2025, through September 30, 2028; however, employment is dependent on the continued availability of grant funds and may be terminated at any time if funding is reduced or discontinued.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in vocational rehabilitation counselling, career and technical education, special education, school counselling, or a related field
Minimum of 3 years’ experience providing or managing transition services, vocational training, workforce development, or life-skills instruction for adults who are blind, low vision, Deafblind, or have multiple disabilities.
Strong knowledge of blindness and low-vision practices, resources, and assistive technologies, with experience applying AT in learning or workplace settings.
Proven ability to design and deliver high-quality instructional materials and learning experiences; familiarity with career pathways and competitive integrated employment (CIE) strategies.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and facilitation skills; proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; and strong problem-solving and initiative-taking abilities.
Note: A combination of education, training, and experience may be considered when competency in the role is demonstrated.

Nice To Haves

Proven ability to plan, organize, and manage complex deliverables independently while coordinating with internal and external stakeholders.
Experience using or supporting use of refreshable braille displays
Demonstrate experience with peer mentoring or peer-to-peer programs including designing high-quality educational materials through use of a Learning Management Systems (LMS) to deliver training.
Strong data tracking and evaluation skills to monitor participant engagement, progress, and outcomes.
Demonstrate experience in effectively utilize technology in a workplace and/or educational environment including Google Suite, Zoom, etc.

Responsibilities

Plan, design, and facilitate research-backed professional learning experiences (both in-person and digital) that guide participants to apply innovative Monarch strategies in their preparation for, pursuit of, or progress in CIE.
Co-lead the peer mentoring component by pairing job-seeking participants with competitively employed participants, supporting structured and informal knowledge exchange.
Support participants in career exploration, job coaching, and connecting to competitive integrated employment opportunities, while tracking their progress toward CIE outcomes.
Stay current with research in blindness/low vision education, transition, and workforce development to inform program content and design.
Contribute to ongoing program evaluation, documentation, and enhancement of project processes, resources, and participant experiences.
