About The Position

RISE is the next generation revolutionary engine concept for the future narrow body airframes. The combustor team is looking for a Combustor Design Engineer for the lean burn (TAPS) Full Annular Rig who will be responsible for taking part in a design process of combustor components as well as supporting design of test rigs and tooling equipment. In this role, the individual will work within defined boundaries to make decisions to solve engineering problems of basic and moderate complexity, by taking timely actions, short-term planning, applying solid engineering principles and judgment to find optimum solutions. We are looking for hardworking, open-minded people willing to learn exciting new to GE engineering fields who are eager to take challenges. In this role you will integrate and develop processes that meet business needs across the organization, manage complex issues within functional area(s) of expertise, be involved in long-term planning, and contribute to the overall business strategy. As a Staff Mechanical Engineer you will report to the Integrated Design & Build Sub-section Manager and be responsible for the mechanical design, manufacture, and delivery of hardware used in the development testing of the next generation of narrow body jet engines.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or advanced degree from an accredited university or college in an engineering field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Mechanical Design engineering.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.
  • This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. Therefore, employment will be contingent upon the ability to prove that you meet the status of a U.S. Person as one of the following: U.S. lawful permanent resident, U.S. Citizen, have been granted asylee or refugee status (i.e., a protected individual under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)).

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's or advanced degree from an accredited university or college in mechanical or aerospace engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in jet engine mechanical design.
  • Demonstrated lean leadership capability, utilizing standard work, visual management, and daily management routines to drive Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost.

Responsibilities

  • Execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements. This work would include mechanical and/or electrical engineering for all products
  • Developing specialized knowledge in their discipline. Serves as best practice/quality resource. Has awareness of latest technical developments in own area. Contributes towards strategy and policy development, and ensure delivery within area of responsibility.
  • Has in-depth knowledge of best practices and how own area integrates with others; has working knowledge of competition and the factors that differentiate them in the market
  • Uses judgment to make decisions or solve moderately complex tasks or problems in areas of operational/product management, manufacturing, technology or engineering. Takes new perspective on existing solutions. Uses technical experience and expertise for data analysis to support recommendations. Uses multiple internal and limited external sources outside of own function to arrive at decisions.
  • Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience. May lead small projects with moderate risks and resource requirements. Explains difficult or sensitive information; works to build consensus. Developing persuasion skills required to influence others on topics within field.
  • Lead a small team in FLIGHT DECK, GE Aerospace's proprietary LEAN operating model, engaging in daily management system best practices for project management.
