Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Baton Rouge is seeking a full-time English Language Training (ELT) Instructor to provide culturally sensitive English language training for clients served under all refugee resettlement programs. The primary responsibility of the ELT Instructor will be to assess clients and place them in suitable English language classes tailored to their individual needs. This role involves designing and implementing engaging lesson plans that utilize diverse teaching methods and strategies, focusing on enhancing skills in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English. The goal is to ensure comprehensive communication development across all relevant content areas, enabling clients to effectively integrate into their new environment. In addition to teaching, the ELT Instructor will link clients with appropriate community supports and provide advocacy to ensure that their educational and personal goals are achieved. This position requires maintaining external relationships and representing the agency to the public, necessitating a polished business-like demeanor and professional appearance. The ELT Instructor will also be expected to work irregular hours and weekends on short notice, reflecting the dynamic needs of the client population. The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree in Education, a human services field, or a relevant degree, with a minimum of two years of experience teaching in adult education, particularly in multi-level and multicultural classes. Proficiency in multiple languages, including Spanish, Dari, Pashto, and Arabic, is preferred. The role demands excellent communication skills, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to establish and maintain positive professional relationships with co-workers, participants, and visitors. Knowledge of community resources and experience working with refugees or immigrants will be advantageous, as will cross-cultural or international experience. Attention to detail and the ability to balance multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment are essential for success in this role.
