About The Position

Become a Sierra Team’s Coach to help develop, train and mold the future of Sierra’s athletes! Provide instruction to groups and team’s athletes in a safe and fun matter while enjoying the one-of-a-kind Sierra environment our resort is known for.

Requirements

  • Must be able to attend all required training sessions- required.
  • Must have excellent guest service skills- required.
  • Must have excellent communication skills- required.
  • Must work well in a team environment - required.
  • Must be available to work holidays and weekends- required.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (G.E.D.); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret graphs.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Resort certification on any necessary equipment.

Nice To Haves

  • PSIA/AASI, USSA, or USASA certification – preferred.
  • Experience working with guests of all ages - preferred.
  • Previous experience with teaching/coaching/mentoring - preferred
  • Previous experience with teaching/coaching/mentoring children - preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Upholding the highest levels of guest safety on varied, challenging terrain with constantly changing winter weather conditions.
  • Clearly and accurately instructing/coaching assigned groups of skiing or snowboarding students/athletes, both physically and verbally.
  • Ensuring that students/athletes are matched to appropriate skier/snowboarding skill level and working with supervisors/managers to make appropriate changes when necessary.
  • Assisting guests to load and unload the chairlift.
  • Communicating instructions and helping guests to their feet during a lesson; lifting children by the vest (if applicable).
  • Supervising athletes/children in class at all times; assisting at lunch and snack times; ensuring return of children to identified guardian.
  • Assisting in operational responsibilities of Competition Services programs including but not limited to registration process, directing guests to appropriate equipment-fitting source, upkeep of outdoor teaching areas, and cleanliness of facilities.
  • Accountable for all equipment used (including but not limited to radios, drills, timing, gates, bibs, flags, tents, generators, signs, shovels, and snowmobiles). This will include maintenance of this equipment, when necessary, as well as accurate records of the use of this equipment.
  • Communicating long and short-term lesson plans and achieved goals with athlete's parents.
  • Contribute to team effort by participating in Job Sharing, assuming responsibility for the cleanliness of the resort and safety of guests and employees.
  • Participating in safety meetings; accepting diverse assignments; maintaining a positive and friendly attitude and demeanor in all internal and external guest interactions.
  • Meet guest, employee, safety, and financial objectives and department goals as set forth by immediate supervisor.
