About The Position

The RightOfWay Technician is responsible for inspecting, maintaining, and repairing the right-of-way, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards. This role involves coordinating activities, preparing documentation, and maintaining relationships with various stakeholders, including landowners and regulatory agencies. The technician will also respond to emergencies and perform inspections at various company locations as needed.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate or equivalent; BS Degree is a plus.
  • Knowledge of advanced pipeline repairs and safe welding practices.
  • Experience in safe operation of vehicles, trailers, and small boats.
  • Knowledge of safe trenching and shoring practices.
  • Experience in line excavation and lowering, and minor carpentry.
  • Experience in inspection of all aspects of pipeline and right-of-way repair.
  • Knowledge of basic principles of pipeline mechanical and electrical equipment and ability to troubleshoot and repair.
  • Ability to read, troubleshoot, and perform minor repairs to rectifiers.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to diplomatically deal with confrontational individuals.
  • Valid driver's license and insurance coverage by the Company Insurance Carrier.
  • Ability to take direction and supervision, and comprehend written communications.
  • Good math skills and basic computer skills.
  • Willingness to travel and drive own vehicle.
  • Availability to work overtime and respond to call outs.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, day or night.
  • Physical capability to move over any terrain and lift/move up to 100 lbs occasionally and 50 lbs frequently.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification as a Hazardous Materials Technician (24 hours HAZWOPER training).

Responsibilities

  • Maintains good public relations with property owners, highway departments, pipelines, utilities, regulators, and city and county officials.
  • Conducts regularly scheduled ground inspections of pipeline right-of-way in high-exposure areas.
  • Ensures that one-call requests are properly checked and follow-ups are performed.
  • Inspects routine maintenance and pipeline repairs, including relocation, casings, lowering, and coating of pipelines due to construction conflicts.
  • Maintains, repairs, and inspects work equipment.
  • Prepares Crossing Permits, Development Agreements, and consults with relevant departments as necessary.
  • Prepares change diagrams and checks those prepared by others for accuracy before submission.
  • Ensures pipeline marker signs are adequately placed for identification of the right-of-way.
  • Makes repairs and minor adjustments to cathodic protection systems and assists Engineering Associate with repairs.
  • Prepares and maintains various reports, documents, and budgets, including aerial patrol reports.
  • Aids in planning, budgeting, coordinating, and executing pipeline right-of-way maintenance as directed by the supervisor.
  • Directs maintenance work such as movement of heavy equipment for inspection, cleaning, and repair.
  • Assists in preparing plans and cost estimates for annual capital and operating expense budgets.
  • Knowledge of emergency response activities for Pipeline Oil Spill Contingency Plan and performs emergency response activities as directed.
  • Trains and assists in the training of new Operations & Maintenance employees.
