About The Position

This position is represented by the Anchorage Municipal Employee Association (AMEA) and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the Union. The role involves responding to and resolving complaints regarding permitted and non-permitted uses of the Municipal rights of way, enforcing Anchorage Municipal Code, Title 24, and other applicable titles and regulations. Responsibilities include issuing written memos and civil citations, representing the Municipality of Anchorage in judicial or quasi-judicial proceedings, reviewing and approving construction and utility plans, conducting inspections, and responding to public inquiries and complaints regarding Right of Way activities.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent, and five (5) years of experience in relevant fields.
  • At least one (1) year of experience at the Engineering Technician II level with Municipality or equivalent elsewhere.
  • OR Associate's degree in Engineering, Geomatics, Construction Management, or related field and three (3) years of experience.
  • OR Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Geomatics, Construction Management, or related field and one (1) year of experience at the Engineering Technician II level.
  • Must possess and/or obtain a satisfactory background check.
  • Valid State of Alaska driver's license and satisfactory driving record at time of hire.
  • IMSA or ATSSA Work Zone Traffic Control Technician certification within six (6) months of hire.
  • Work Zone Safety Officer Certification within six (6) months of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) certifications including OSHA 10-hour, OSHA 20-hour, OSHA 30-hour.
  • State of Alaska Certified Erosion & Sediment Control Lead (AK-CESCL).

Responsibilities

  • Respond to and resolve complaints regarding permitted and non-permitted uses of the Municipal rights of way.
  • Enforce Anchorage Municipal Code, Title 24 and other applicable titles and regulations.
  • Issue written memos and civil citations.
  • Represent the Municipality of Anchorage in judicial or quasi-judicial proceedings.
  • Review, comment, and/or approve construction and utility plans.
  • Conduct construction and use inspections to Municipality of Anchorage Standard Specifications (MASS) and other pertinent standards.
  • Review and comment on platting cases.
  • Respond to public inquiries and complaints regarding Right of Way activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
