The position involves determining the type, size, and positioning of rigging gear needed to support material being hoisted. The employee will estimate cubic weights of cargo to be hoisted and its center of gravity. Responsibilities include securing a variety of heavy materials, pre-blocked flat racks, and trucks prior to loading, as well as clamping or strapping loaded material, cutting blocks, wedges, and parts for wooden bracing, and building temporary decking. The role also requires planning, constructing, and repairing various supply shipping and storage containers. The employee will operate vehicles with a gross vehicle weight of more than 26,000 pounds up to 32,000 pounds on public roads at highway speeds. Additionally, the employee will review work orders and work plans, determining the applicability of Special Packaging Instructions (SPI), contractor drawings, or blueprints upon receipt of work orders.
