About The Position

The Rigging Journeyman is responsible for the safety, and coordination of the activities of assigned personnel and provides direction, guidance and oversees work assignments and performance of all personnel involved in numerous rigging evolutions.

Requirements

  • High school education or equivalent.
  • Minimum 10 years related work experience.
  • Knowledge of rigging tools including their use, repair and maintenance.
  • Knowledgeable in shipyard and marine practices, quality assurance and contractual responsibilities.
  • Must have excellent understanding of all trade responsibilities.
  • Skill using various hand tools.
  • Skill in determining proper sequence of planning, scheduling and production flow.
  • Excellent skill in equipment testing and blueprint reading
  • Skill working as lead for more than one team and provide guidance in the selection of the proper routes for each assigned job.
  • Effective problem solving along with strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Sound interpersonal skills needed to interface with company personnel and customers.
  • Ability to read, listen to and understand ideas presented through spoken or written word.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and stay organized.
  • Ability to direct Helpers and junior Journeyman efficiently and effectively.
  • Ability to work well with others.
  • Ability to read, interpret and follow detailed written instructions and to conduct activities in a safe manner.
  • Able to work independently
  • Teamwork orientation
  • Must have a minimum of 10 years of ship repair experience and qualifications.
  • Must be able to speak and understand Basic English
  • For E-verify and contract security purposes (including ship access lists), all employees MUST present a valid export document. Acceptable documents are U.S. Birth Certificate, Certificate of Naturalization, Passport, Passport Card and Permanent Resident Card.

Responsibilities

  • Organizes, and directs Helpers and junior Journeyman to complete projects within established guidelines and time frames.
  • Ability to fill in and supervise a project in his Leadman’s absence
  • Ensure all safety regulations are being adhered to and insures all JSA’s are completed.
  • Monitors employees work levels and reports findings to Supervisor.
  • Performs related work as required.
  • Must adhere to and promote ALL company safety policies. Wear all required PPE when in Production areas and promote a clean and safe work environment.
  • Ensure that employees assigned with Firewatch duties are in place and ready prior to begin hot work
  • Fill out Job JSA forms
