About The Position

The Rigger - Semi-Skilled position at Electric Boat in Groton, CT involves training candidates in various rigging requirements and practices. The role includes the selection and use of wire rope, chain, synthetic web slings, rigging hardware, and lifting devices. Candidates will learn to interpret rated charts for rigging gear, safe rigging practices, and hand and radio communications. The Rigger will be responsible for determining the weight and center of gravity of loads, selecting and using hoists, chain falls, and come-alongs, and inspecting lifting and handling gear. The Rigger will support shipbuilding processes by assisting in the assembly and disassembly of machinery and equipment, lifting and positioning ships and shipyard machinery, rigging nuclear components, and working under radiological controls. Emergency response to fires and accidents is also part of the responsibilities.

Requirements

• 0-5 years of relevant experience
• High School Diploma or Equivalent or 2+ years relevant technical experience
• Must be able to work all shifts

Nice To Haves

• Previous rigging experience
• Successful completion of the Eastern CT Workforce Investment Board Manufacturing Pipeline Initiative Training Program

Responsibilities

• Support the assembly and disassembly of machinery and equipment on and off the ships
• Responsible for lifting, moving and positioning ships and shipyard machinery, equipment, structural parts and other heavy loads
• Rig nuclear components
• Work under radiological controls (obtain and work with a TLD)
• Provide emergency response to fires and accidents
• Read and understand shipyard procedures, test documents, blueprints, etc.
• Work all shifts and perform work from heights
• Obtain and maintain a secret security clearance
