About The Position

The Ridge Point Residence Director (RD) is a full-time (10-month), live-in professional staff member of the Department of Residence Life. Living within the community is an essential part of the job. The Ridge Point RD reports to the South-West Campus Area Coordinator (AC). The Ridge Point RD (Residence Director I) is responsible for a comprehensive student development program within Rideg Point Hall, a new, apartment-style residence hall which opened fall of 2025. Ridge Point Hall houses approximately 305 residents. The RD is responsible for supervision of up to 11 Resident Assistants (RAs), an office manager, and receptionists, as well as oversight of an operating budget and student activity budget for the building. They also manage the schedule and use of a multipurpose room, and theater room that is used for university classes and meetings. Ridge Point is used over the summer to house Summer Conference participants. The RD is responsible for overall development of a supportive living learning environment and fostering community within the residence hall through the development of advocacy teams and focused on our Guiding Principles of personal growth, healthy lifestyles, social responsibility and academic support. The RD addresses student conduct and policy enforcement in collaboration with the Office of Student Conduct and supports students of concern through close collaboration with the CARE (Connect, Assist, Refer, Empower) and BIT (Behavioral Intervention Team) Teams. The RD will serve as a collaborative partner to the Assistant Residence Director (ARD) assigned to the adjacent residence hall, Merrill Hall, recognizing the importance of intentional relationship-building and shared purpose in creating a cohesive residential experience in the South Campus Community. Although each role maintains distinct supervisory responsibilities and reporting lines to the South-West AC, both professionals are expected to work in tandem to support a unified South Campus community culture, shared operational coverage, and coordinated staff engagement. This position calls for a leader who values teamwork, clear communication, and the ability to balance individual staff oversight with collective community stewardship.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Three years (6 semesters) staff experience at the Resident Assistant level or above in a comprehensive Residence Life/Housing Services operation, or related Student Affairs program
  • Demonstrated competence in all facets of residence hall management and organization, staff supervision and training, student conduct and conflict resolution, programming and community development, and administrative leadership.
  • Strong professional commitment to fields of residence life and higher education.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills are essential.
  • Understanding and appreciation for relevant developmental issues and concerns characteristic of college students.
  • Familiarity with Student Development Theory.
  • Demonstrated commitment to customer service, as well as residence hall marketing and retention strategies.
  • Must value and demonstrate a high degree of student contact.

Nice To Haves

  • A Master's degree in Higher Education, College Student Personnel, Counseling or related field is preferred.
  • Residence Director experience and previous supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

  • Hire, train, supervise, evaluate, and develop 11 RAs, an office manager, and front desk receptionists.
  • Oversee general management of residence halls and quality of community life.
  • Coordinate and run weekly staff meetings with Ridge Point Hall RAs, as well as with all South Campus RAs as determined.
  • Monitor and grade staff assignments in Canvas and facilitate team development with the staff.
  • Attend weekly ProStaff meetings and help foster team trust and development.
  • Assess resident needs; design and facilitate opportunities for positive personal growth and academic achievement.
  • Inform residents of and implement applicable University, Housing, and Residence Life policies; utilize creative and appropriate restorative, educational, and disciplinary sanctions, administrative procedures, and other campus resources in addressing student conduct issues.
  • Counsel and refer residents as appropriate with personal, academic, or housing-related concerns.
  • Collaborate with other campus support offices to address residents' mental health needs.
  • Advise and support RAs in all aspects of diversified programming efforts; advise and promote Hall Council and support RHA and student leadership development.
  • Maintain accurate records and files in area office; provide information and reports as requested.
  • Foster a positive working relationship with the Housing Services administrative staff.
  • Learn, and use, Canvas, Maxient, Mercury/StarRez, and other computer programs required to complete work assignments.
  • Oversee activity and operating budgets and expenditures.
  • Monitor general maintenance of the buildings in conjunction with Housing facilities and custodial teams; report building maintenance and security concerns.
  • Work closely in coordination of Residence Life projects and functions with other members of the professional staff team.
  • Share on-call responsibilities on a rotating basis with other Residence Life professional staff members.
  • Collaborate with Student Affairs departments, other University departments, facilities, and staff on special projects or committee work as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.
