We Create To Inspire! The position reports to the Executive, Ride Control Systems Engineering. This is a Full-Time role. What You Will Do: Ride Control Systems Engineers work within Walt Disney Imagineering’s Florida based Ride Studio. They perform in a highly collaborative environment on complementary teams which include technical, creative, and park operations members. These engineers are responsible for all aspects of delivering ride control systems for new attractions at the theme parks around the world. Our Imagineers conceive, design, engineer, and deliver control systems for a variety of sophisticated and innovative ride systems. Ride Control Systems Engineers work on all phases of ride control system design for innovative attractions. Collaborating with diverse teams to deliver safe, high-quality, and creative ride experiences.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in the engineering field as related to controlling automated electromechanical systems
  • Demonstrated experience managing projects with budgets over $10M
  • Knowledge of control system components and software development processes
  • Experience leading internal simulation/mockup/prototype efforts
  • Familiarity with relevant industry standards, including ASTM F2291, EN 13814, ISO 13849, ISO 61508, UL 508A, NFPA 70 (NEC)
  • Familiarity with relevant local codes, including California and Florida Amusement
  • Proficient in Beckhoff automation system architecture and components
  • Proficient in design and application of automation industry safety rated devices and systems
  • Experience with electronic and electrical systems packaging on vehicles
  • Proficient in wireless communication systems for real-time control
  • Able to manage large scale self-performed and/or vendor-designed control system development and delivery activities for innovative (1st of its kind) ride systems
  • Advanced knowledge of Control System Engineering design and analysis
  • Working knowledge of Mechanical Engineering design and analysis
  • Advanced knowledge of relevant Ride Engineering and industry standards
  • Strong hardware knowledge and hands-on field installation and test experience
  • Strong algorithms and software knowledge and hands on simulation and field-testing experience
  • Familiar with new/emerging technology and applications within Entertainment industry
  • Extensive knowledge of all aspects of automation systems, including Programmable Controllers, General Purpose Computers, sensors and actuators, I/O systems, and communication network systems
  • Bachelor of Science in an engineering field, science, or math.

  • TUV Functional Safety Certification
  • Previous Disney or themed entertainment experience, with knowledge of the industry
  • Proficient with engineering design tools, including AutoCAD, Matlab, Simulink, Solidworks
  • Proficient in Rockwell and Siemens automation systems architecture and components
  • Expertise in motor and motion control methods and components
  • Knowledge of pneumatic controls and devices
  • Experience in broad application of control system theory (closed-loop control, MIMO systems, positioning and navigation)
  • Knowledge of international amusement industry standards applicable in France, Hong Kong, or China

Responsibilities

  • Supervise the daily activities of an engineering team through all phases of engineering design, mockups, production, installation, testing, turnover and close-out efforts
  • Oversee Vendor/contractor management and oversight
  • Lead large scale proof of concept prototype & mockups, design/fab/test
  • Deliver unique and high value contributions in area of expertise
  • Collaborate with the project procurement team to bid and award outside vendor contracts of moderate value
  • Develop work and resource plans for unique and high-risk scope
  • Check design documents and drawings to ensure accuracy, design efficiency, algorithm efficiency, and code/standard compliance
  • Develop new vendor capabilities and processes to reliably deliver Disney quality systems and components
  • Provide technical design of system architecture, hardware, and software; prototyping; simulation; capacity optimization
  • Advise other engineers in application of ride system design and/or ride control system technologies
