This is for a returning Modeling and Simulation Grad Intern position for the Modeling and Simulation Computing Department (MSCD) within the Information Systems and Cyber Division (ISCD). This position will be 100% onsite at our office in El Segundo, CA, Chantilly, VA or Colorado Springs, CO. Job Summary Information Systems and Cyber Division (ISCD) staff couple the latest in information system technologies, such as elastic compute clouds, containerization, microservices, real-time operating systems, and visualization frameworks, with expertise in cyber security, software architecture, software engineering, data science, Artificial Intelligence, process improvement, and software development to deliver responsive, resilient, high-performance software intensive systems to our Intelligence Community, DoD, and civilian customers. The Modeling and Simulation Computing Department (MSCD) consists of a team dedicated to ground-breaking software solutions and capabilities for government and commercial customer needs. We enable detailed and complex modeling, analysis, optimization, and visualization of satellite orbits, system architectures, and engineering trade-spaces to provide customer decision support for the future of space. Work Model: This position will be located 100% onsite in El Segundo, CA, Chantilly, VA or Colorado Springs, CA.

Requirements

  • Completed BS degree and enrolled full time in a MS or PhD degree program in computer science, aerospace engineering, computer engineering, mechanical engineering, systems engineering, mathematics, or other related disciplines from an accredited school
  • Availability to work full-time for a minimum of 10 weeks outside of university term and ability to return to a degree program full-time after completion of the internship.
  • Prior internship with The Aerospace Corporation.
  • Proficiency in one or more of the department’s core computer languages (e.g., Fortran, C++, Python, Matlab, etc.)
  • Experience in implementing and optimizing modern software for deployment on Windows and Linux platforms
  • This position requires the ability to obtain a US Government Clearance (US Citizenship required)

Nice To Haves

  • Academic or professional experience working as a member of a technical team
  • Academic or professional experience in space-related modeling, simulation, and analysis
  • Academic or professional experience in modern software development, integration, and testing practices
  • Current DoD or SCI security clearance
  • Extensive experience in implementing and optimizing modern software for deployment on Windows and Linux platforms

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with Aerospace technical staff to develop and mature a range of modeling and simulation software tools within the sub-division to support analysis in areas such as astrodynamics, navigation, communication, and optimization.
  • Interact directly with local Aerospace personnel and collaborate with Aerospace personnel in other locations.
  • Engage with software users and customers to refine capability requirements
  • Apply modern development practices in areas including rapid prototyping, parallel computing, cloud computing, and containerization
