About The Position

The RHVAC Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing refrigeration, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems and equipment in commercial environments. The role requires a solid understanding of HVAC and refrigeration systems, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team to ensure that all systems operate efficiently and safely.

Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment DMV check, drug screening and background check.
  • Refrigeration license required as defined by State(s) regulations and preferred in all areas.
  • EPA Certification is required.
  • OSHA 10-Hour certification required within 30 days of employment (company provided training available).
  • High school diploma or equivalent (required); post-secondary education in RHVAC is a plus.
  • Completion of an apprenticeship or formal RHVAC training program.
  • Proficiency in the use of tools and equipment necessary for RHVAC installation and repair.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems, as well as refrigeration principles.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow technical diagrams and schematics.
  • Effective communication skills for working with customers and colleagues.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Ability to lift heavy equipment and materials (up to 50 lbs or more).
  • Ability to work in confined spaces, at heights, and in environments that may require protective equipment (e.g., gloves, hard hats, safety glasses).
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks such as climbing, standing, bending, and crouching for extended periods while working on equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Maintenance & Service: Perform regular preventative maintenance tasks such as changing filters, inspecting refrigerant levels, calibrating sensors, and checking for system leaks.
  • Lubricate system components, check for proper system pressure, and replace worn-out parts as necessary.
  • Conduct system diagnostics to identify issues with airflow, temperature regulation, or other mechanical problems.
  • Troubleshooting & Repairs: Diagnose and troubleshoot issues in HVAC and refrigeration systems, including but not limited to electrical failures, mechanical breakdowns, refrigerant leaks, and sensor malfunctions.
  • Provide timely, effective repairs and replacements of parts as needed to restore system function.
  • Installation: Install new HVAC and refrigeration systems (e.g., compressors, coils, split systems, RTUs, heaters, walk-in coolers & freezer units) in compliance with local codes and safety regulations.
  • Ensure proper integration of ductwork, electrical wiring, and piping for optimal system functionality.
  • Customer Interaction: Communicate effectively with clients regarding service issues, solutions, and recommendations for system improvements or upgrades.
  • Provide guidance on optimal system usage and maintenance schedules to ensure long-term performance and energy efficiency.
  • Safety & Compliance: Follow all safety procedures and regulations when handling refrigerants, operating electrical systems, and working with pressurized equipment.
  • Ensure that all installations and repairs comply with federal, state, and local codes, including environmental regulations related to refrigerant handling.
  • Follow lockout/tagout (LOTO) and other safety procedures when working on equipment to prevent accidents and injuries.
  • Complete safety training provided by company.
  • Training & Development: Stay current with new technologies, systems, and industry best practices through ongoing training and certification programs.
  • Assist in the training of RHVAC Apprentices as required.
  • Record Keeping & Reporting: Maintain accurate service records, including details of all inspections, repairs, and maintenance performed in the computerized maintenance management system.
  • Complete necessary paperwork and reports for warranty claims, service contracts, and parts inventory.
