Basic Function Supervises the facilities operations including housekeeping, custodial, and maintenance activities and assists in coordination and/or supervision of service personnel.

  • Supervises, schedules, prioritizes and assigns the work of the support staff.
  • Supervises event set-ups and/or special arrangements for conferences, special bookings or programs.
  • Assists in developing and coordinating major maintenance projects.
  • Interviews, hires, trains, evaluates and disciplines regular and student employees.
  • Serves as a liaison with clients, customers, vendors and University departments in order to provide expertise in the area of employment.
  • Assists in developing and implementing policies and procedures.
  • Oversees operations in order to maintain quality control and meet deadlines.
  • Forecasts needs and orders supplies in order to maintain inventory levels.
  • Prepares special and periodic financial or other reports and maintains unit records.
  • Resolves employee complaints and grievances.
  • Inspect facility operations in order to maintain health and safety standards in order to ensure compliance with University, State and Federal rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge equivalent to that which would be acquired in the first two or three years in college, technical, vocational, or business school with coursework in education-management, project management or maintenance related to the area of employment; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in facilities, maintenance, and cleaning; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • May require valid vehicle operator's license where needed to perform duties of the position.
  • Other skills and/or physical abilities required to perform duties of the position.
  • This position requires or will require prior to the completion of the probationary period: knowledge of basic personal computer terminology and operations, and the ability to use e-mail and the internet.
  • All positions in RHS are designated as critical status. In the event of a university closure, modification, or suspension of operations due to snow or other emergency condition, persons in this position are expected to make all reasonable attempts to report to work as scheduled for the duration of the closure/suspension. If a person has an approved remote work agreement to work a portion of their normally scheduled work hours remotely, they may be called upon to work on-site to serve the MSU community.
  • One to three years supervisory experience.
