About The Position

The City of Oklahoma City is seeking a professional consultant to develop a strategic development plan for the downtown and Bricktown areas. This plan will guide land use, public infrastructure, and private development decisions to ensure thoughtful, contextual, and complementary development builds on the momentum of the vibrant and growing core of the city. The project will focus on the area bounded by I-235 on the east, SW 15th Street on the south, N Western Avenue on the west, and NW 13th Street on the north. The consultant will work with key stakeholders and will be expected to reference and inform multiple public and private entities that drive investment and decision-making in the downtown area.

Requirements

  • Experience in urban planning and development.
  • Proven track record of similar projects in downtown or urban areas.
  • Ability to engage with multiple stakeholders and facilitate public outreach.
  • Strong analytical skills to assess existing conditions and forecast impacts of new developments.
  • Knowledge of infrastructure planning and economic development strategies.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with Oklahoma City's previous downtown plans and studies.
  • Experience with smart city technologies and sustainable design practices.
  • Background in community engagement and public policy development.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct an existing conditions assessment evaluating current capacities and conditions in various categories including public infrastructure, land use conditions, and safety and security.
  • Analyze potential impacts of impending developments on existing infrastructure and recommend implementation measures.
  • Identify opportunities to improve the downtown experience and create synergies between complementary land uses.
  • Outline targeted infrastructure investments and public realm enhancements to support private investment opportunities.
  • Develop an implementation strategy outlining priorities and potential funding sources for infrastructure improvements.
