About The Position

At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We’re working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight! This role is part of TeraWave, a satellite communications network designed to deliver symmetrical data speeds of up to 6 Tbps anywhere on Earth. This network will service tens of thousands of enterprise, data center, and government users who require reliable connectivity for critical operations. We are seeking a Microwave Engineer III to support the design and development of next-generation, high-performance phased array RF front-end systems for mission-critical, high-reliability applications in space-based communications. This role will be a key technical contributor, defining our phased array antenna from concept through qualification. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in RF hardware and systems, with knowledge of communications theory, RF system analyses, and experience putting together systems engineering artifacts. The candidate will also have the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment where innovation must align with real-world constraints.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering with 5+ years of experience in RF systems or RF design
  • Experience performing RF systems engineering level analyses, such as link budgets, RF cascade analyses, phase noise analyses, etc.
  • Previous phased array design experience and knowledge of phased array principles
  • Experience building satellite communication and antenna systems, architectures, and components
  • Demonstrated expertise with commercial RF/system simulation tools (ADS, Cadence AWR, HFSS, CST, MATLAB)
  • Experience with scripting languages such as Matlab or Python
  • Excellent verbal, written, and graphical communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with RF simulation tools (ADS, HFSS, CST, etc.)
  • Experience with satellite level link planning and budgeting using tools such as ANSYS Systems Tool Kil (STK)
  • Experience with electromagnetic simulation tools such as HFSS or TICRA GRASP
  • Experience with RF design tools such as AWR Microwave Office
  • Experience with aerospace, defense, or wireless communication systems

Responsibilities

  • Develop, own, and manage RF component specifications and the flow down of system level requirements
  • Perform communications and RF analyses, such as link budget, RF cascade, modulation schemes
  • Support the design, simulation, and validation of next generation RF microwave components for advanced phased array antenna applications in microwave and millimeter-wave bands (e.g., X, Ku, Ka)
  • Perform advanced RF circuit/system simulations, using tools like ADS, Cadence AWR, and MATLAB
  • Work across a multi-functional team across all stages of development from initial concept through operation

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, vision, basic and supplemental life insurance, paid parental leave, short and long-term disability, 401(k) with a company match of up to 5%, and an Education Support Program.
  • Paid Time Off: Up to four (4) weeks per year based on weekly scheduled hours, and up to 14 company-paid holidays.
  • Dependent on role type and job level, employees may be eligible for benefits and bonuses based on the company's intent to reward individual contributions and enable them to share in the company's results, or other factors at the company's sole discretion.
  • Bonus amounts and eligibility are not guaranteed and subject to change and cancellation.
