About The Position

Join us at Lockheed Martin as a Radio Frequency (RF) Engineer working for one of the top companies in the world. You will be part of a fast-paced group within the Lockheed Martin Space division, working with an interdisciplinary engineering team supporting design of high-performance, high-reliability hardware for both space and terrestrial applications. In this role you will join our team in Severn, MD and be responsible for the research, design, and test of RF components, equipment, and systems. Projects may include design of communications systems (Software Defined Radio), Space-flight systems, and other interesting and challenging projects that support critical customer missions. Designs may be driven by low SWaP (Size, Weight, and Power) objectives, environmental concerns, and other issues that require novel solutions. What You’ll Do Concept & Requirements – Develop system requirements, derive link budgets, estimate antenna performance perform, conduct trade studies, and propose architecture solutions for communications payloads (e.g., SDR) and flight qualified hardware. Design & Implementation – Develop RF circuits and subsystems including low noise and power amplifiers, filters, frequency synthesizers, and up/down converters. Develop models and conduct performance simulations (RF Circuit, EM) of RF designs and physical structures. Select components, generate Bill of Materials, work with Digital team on schematic capture and advise eCAD team on PCB layouts. Prototype & Test – Build and test prototype boards, run design verification tests, and analyze results. Perform hands-on testing and troubleshooting of RF systems using a range of equipment including: Spectrum/Signal Analyzers, Network Analyzers, Signal Generators and Oscilloscopes. Work with Antenna group in the characterization of radiating structures using in house anechoic chambers, calibrated reference antennas and spherical near field probe. Team Collaboration – Partner with Senior RF, Digital, Mechanical, Software, Test, and Program Management teams to ensure schedule, cost, and performance targets are met. Documentation & Communication – Produce clear technical reports, system diagrams, design reviews, and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (or related field) from an accredited institution.
  • 1+ year of professional experience in Radio Frequency (RF) hardware design.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DoD Top‑Secret clearance (U.S. citizenship required).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with design and simulation tools such as Agilent ADS (Advanced Design System), AWR Microwave Office, or similar tool packages.
  • Experience with 3D Electromagnetic simulation tools such as CST or HFSS is a plus.
  • Familiarity with eCAD tools such as Altium, Xpedition, Zuken, or similar and an understanding of RF layout design principals and best practices.
  • Experience in designing and carrying out experiments.
  • Experience with software-defined radio (SDR) systems and interfaces, as well as associated RF Front-End electronics.
  • Knowledge of antenna concepts – experience with design and test is a plus.
  • Good writing, communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
