Candidate sought to provide technical research and development support onsite at DARPA in Arlington, VA as part of a team of technical experts supporting a portfolio of programs targeting reverse engineering and vulnerability analysis of hardware and software systems. The candidate will be responsible for providing the Government with subject matter expertise on technical topics related to reverse engineering and vulnerability analysis on a wide variety of software and hardware platforms. The candidate will also be responsible for assessing performer technical progress, evaluating performer capabilities, projecting performer outcomes, and supporting DARPA-funded independent verification and validation (IV&V) testing with performers and partners. The ideal candidate possesses technical expertise and experience with red teaming, vulnerability research, and/or reverse engineering of network edge devices, commercial cybersecurity apparatus, enterprise network boundary devices, to include both hardware and software subsystems. Exemplary candidates have demonstrated an ability to learn new subjects and gain rapid insights into current and next-generation cyber research and prototyping, preferably with hands-on leadership of research programs at the performer level.

  • Provide technical research and development support onsite at DARPA.
  • Offer subject matter expertise on reverse engineering and vulnerability analysis.
  • Assess performer technical progress and evaluate performer capabilities.
  • Project performer outcomes and support DARPA-funded independent verification and validation (IV&V) testing.
  • Experience with Red Teaming, Vulnerability Research, or Reverse Engineering of software and/or hardware system components.
  • Experience formally documenting requirements and providing supporting evidence.
  • Strong familiarity with the state of the art in modern reverse engineering practices, including tactics, techniques, procedures, and tooling.
  • Degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, related field, or commensurate experience.
  • Strong familiarity with C and Python.
  • Ability to work with little oversight to take abstract problems, provide detailed analysis, and generate recommendations.
  • Current Top Secret security clearance with SCI eligibility.
  • Ability to establish and maintain DoD SAP access.
  • Advanced degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a similar role.
  • Past experience as a CNO capability developer for the DoD or IC.
  • Familiarity with DARPA and/or DoD research and development programs as a performer/vendor contractor, SETA support contractor, or Government employee.
  • Familiarity with DoD technology pilots, including acceptance testing and preparation and establishment of ATO and/or ATC documentation.
  • Past experience working in DoD Special Access Programs.
  • Experience with COMSEC devices and key management, classified network accreditation, and/or DoD cyber security activities.
  • Education and/or experience using Formal Methods, such as using automated reasoning tools to verify software.
  • Excellent technical writing skills, including proofreading and quality control on technical documents.
  • Excellent communication skills - both written and oral.
  • Proficient in office software use, including Microsoft Office Suite.
