About The Position
The Revenue Tax Auditor position at the Indiana Department of Revenue (DOR) involves conducting field audits on behalf of the State of Indiana across a diverse range of taxpayers. The primary responsibility of the auditor is to analyze the financial records of businesses to ensure compliance with Indiana tax laws. This role emphasizes a strong commitment to customer service, aiming to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and productivity in tax administration. The position is based in the Kokomo district office, and after completing a training period, the auditor will work on a hybrid schedule that includes time at home, in the office, and at various audit locations. Candidates must be prepared to travel within Indiana and occasionally outside the state for audits, with travel accommodations provided as per state policy. In this role, the auditor will independently perform field audits, including those for international companies with multiple subsidiaries. Responsibilities include conducting pre-audit analyses, writing clear and concise audit reports, and explaining audit processes and tax laws to taxpayer representatives. The auditor will also handle administrative tasks such as maintaining inventory logs, calendars, and travel vouchers, while interpreting Indiana Tax Code and audit regulations. The position requires the auditor to utilize various computer systems and research materials to identify potential issues and maintain records of audit activities. Additionally, the auditor will provide technical assistance and training to junior auditors, ensuring a collaborative and supportive work environment. The job is designed to be dynamic, with the potential for additional duties and responsibilities as needed, reflecting the evolving nature of tax administration and compliance.
