About The Position

Reports directly to the Revenue Cycle Manager and will assist to the develop, plan, organize and implement current and future strategies to bill customers, process payments, minimize bad debt, improve cash flow and manage the overall health of the companys receivables. Will assist with the day-to-day activities of the Revenue Cycle team which include but are not limited to billing, collections, accounts receivables and financial planning for patients. This position will work with the Revenue Cycle team to meet department long and short term strategic goals. Work is performed under minimal supervision and in accordance with established procedures. The Revenue Cycle Specialist position requires the use of computers and other office equipment.

Requirements

  • Minimum of one years in medical billing, accounts receivables, and patient customer service.
  • Proven ability to effectively communicate with all levels of staff, insurance companies and patients.
  • Competency in computerized patient billing systems and appropriate computer software.
  • Strong ethics and a high level of personal and professional integrity.
  • Proven record of change management skills
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work and manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including, letters, memos and emails.
  • Excellent attention to detail and high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to research and analyze data.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Exhibit a high degree of confidentiality in all aspects of the position.
  • Hearing: Adequate to perform job duties in person and over the telephone.
  • Speaking: Must be able to communicate clearly in person and over the telephone.
  • Vision: Visual acuity adequate to perform job duties, including reading information from printed sources and computer screens.
  • Sitting for long periods of time and repetitive hand motions for data entry.

Nice To Haves

  • Prefer at least three years experience in medical billing, accounts receivables, and patient customer service.
  • Prefer demonstrated knowledge, usage, and experience with CPT and ICD10 codes.

Responsibilities

  • Strong customer service skills

  • Assist patients with questions regarding outstanding balances.
  • Ensure proper CPT and IDC-10 codes were used.
  • Review to ensure insurances were billed properly.
  • Ensure slides were applied properly.
  • Collect remaining outstanding patient owed balances.
  • Process medical and behavioral health payments made directly to Health West
  • Process paper insurance checks to Athena
  • Process credit card payments from insurance companies and patients
  • Running the credit card payment through the Athena linked credit card terminal
  • Uploads transaction to Athena
  • Work Athena task list
  • Work Athena hold buckets as assigned by supervisor.
  • Work the Athena unapplied credits
  • Insurance Refund insurance companies as appropriate
  • Patient Refund patients as appropriate
  • Works with outside collections vendor to provide requested statements and information.
  • Works with all workers compensation insurance company inquiries for additional billing record information.
  • Slide application audits.
  • Working accounts receivable to collect past due payments.
  • Develop and sustain a good working relationship with insurance companies; identify possible problems that may cause any slowing of the cash flow. (i.e. new insurance plans, new network providers, reference services, or new providers).

  • Attends in-service and education programs as determined by Health West Administration; attends continuing education required for maintenance of professional certification or licensure.
  • Position requires occasional lifting and carrying items weighing up to 20 pounds unassisted; requires frequent sitting and repetitive hand movements, occasional standing, walking, squatting, bending, and reaching, with some lifting, pushing and pulling exerted regularly throughout a regular work shift.
