About The Position

This position is responsible for entering all patient charges into the patient registration system, posting payments, and completion of defined clerical/data entry duties under the guidance of the Revenue Cycle Manager (RCM). The RCMS will provide support to the Revenue Cycle Manager and Chief Financial Officer with revenue cycle functions. The RCMS must have the ability to stay current with requirements and to answer questions about CPT, IDC-9/ICD-10 and HCPCS codes. Assists RCM with completing patient account adjustments. The RMCS position will provide leadership in performing detailed ICD-9/ICD-10 and CPT coding. This Job Description identifies the major responsibilities of this position. It does not include all aspects of this position such as potential duties assigned by supervisors and requirements for flexibility. The RCMS will monitor Buckets and Unpostables in the practice management system daily to assist with resolution.

Requirements

  • A minimum of high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Certified Professional Coder or Certificate in Medical Billing and Coding (with CPC test to be successfully completed within six months of hire date).
  • Minimum of two (2) years' experience in medical coding.
  • Ability to speak and communicate effectively with co-workers, patients and the public.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Good manual dexterity, ability to sit for prolonged periods of time, change from sitting to standing positions with ease, has good visual acuity.
  • Ability to understand and follow in detail both verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to effectively use the accounts receivable system as required for successful completion of above described job duties.
  • Ability to accurately perform arithmetic tasks.
  • Ability to display flexibility as patient flow changes.
  • Maintains a neat/well-organized work area.
  • Maintains adequate amount of supplies.

Responsibilities

  • Greets patients, staff and visitors in a pleasant and professional manner.
  • Demonstrates the ability to establish and maintain effective, productive relations with co-workers, supervisors, patients, and the public.
  • Responsible for contacting payer or patient to obtain necessary information to fully resolve claims in athenaNet.
  • Responsible for managing denials and resolving issues with payer so that payment may be obtained.
  • Manage workload effectively to meet all timely filing requirements.
  • Provides correct coding information to providers and other staff members as needed.
  • Works in conjunction with the Revenue Cycle Management Staff to resolve accounts receivable issues, as appropriate.
  • Able to work with payers and patients to effectively communicate account issues and promote account resolution.
  • Assist patients and front desk with account problems.
  • Attends all in-service training as required.
  • Must hold all patient Protected Health Information (PHI) other patient personal information and agency information in confidence.
  • Actively participates in and complies with all aspects of the NHFHS Corporate compliance Program.
  • Observes schedule for work, lunch, and breaks.
  • Participate in CQI, other internal committees, special projects/observances or activities that promote improvements in organizational performance.
  • Performs any other duties as assigned by the supervisor, CEO or designee in their absence.
