Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree Health Information Management required
  • Experience in healthcare coding, with a proven track record of leadership and team management 8-10+ years required
  • Thorough knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS, and other coding systems, as well as current coding guidelines and regulations.
  • Familiarity with coding software and electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret coding data and trends to drive decision-making.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with various stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to lead and inspire a team to achieve coding accuracy and performance targets.
  • In-depth understanding of healthcare compliance and risk management principles.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement coding strategies to ensure accurate, compliant, and timely coding of medical services and procedures.
  • Stay up to date with changes in coding guidelines and regulations to maintain compliance.
  • Supervise and provide guidance to the coding team, including coders, auditors, and documentation specialists.
  • Set performance objectives, conduct regular evaluations, and foster a collaborative and high-performing team environment.
  • Establish and maintain coding quality assurance programs to assess coding accuracy and consistency.
  • Provide feedback and conduct training to improve coding proficiency.
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers, clinical documentation specialists, and physicians to enhance the quality of medical documentation, ensuring it supports appropriate coding and billing.
  • Conduct regular coding audits to identify potential issues, trends, and areas for improvement.
  • Develop action plans based on audit findings to address any deficiencies.
  • Ensure that coding practices adhere to relevant healthcare regulations, including ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS, and other coding guidelines.
