About The Position

The position involves performing municipal revenue audit and accounting functions, which include investigations, audits, inspections, and consultations with businesses and taxpayers. Requirements

  • High School diploma plus eight (8) years of revenue auditing of business taxes and licenses OR Associate's degree in accounting, finance, business administration or other related business field plus four (4) years of revenue auditing of business taxes and licenses OR Bachelor's Degree or higher in accounting, finance, business administration or other related business field plus two (2) years or more experience in revenue auditing of business taxes and licenses.
  • Knowledge of personal computers, software applications and spreadsheets including Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Possession of a valid state-issued driver's license and the ability to obtain/maintain a City of Hoover Driver's Permit.
  • Certification as an Alabama Certified Revenue Examiner, Government Tax Analyst or Certified Municipal Revenue Officer is not required when applying, but is required within five (5) years of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Performs municipal revenue audit and accounting functions, including investigations, audits, inspections, and consultations with businesses and taxpayers.
  • Investigates complaints and/or reports rendered by various sources on problem accounts or businesses.
  • Performs audits on records for compliance and timely reporting of taxes.
  • Inspects businesses to ensure proper tax compliance and licensing.
  • Utilizes GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and other software applications.
  • Collaborates with Revenue Division staff as needed to facilitate the smooth operation of the Revenue Division.
  • Provides consultations with taxpayers to address any concerns.
  • Provides an explanation of local laws, city ordinances, policies and procedures, and other assistance as needed.
  • Performs administrative functions, including preparing documents, answering phones, maintaining a filing system, and handling special projects.
  • Analyzes data and compiles detailed and accurate reports in accordance with general accounting principles as required.
  • Keeps immediate supervisor and designated others fully and accurately informed concerning work progress, including present and potential work problems and suggestions for new or improved ways of addressing such problems.
  • Attends meetings, conferences, workshops, and training sessions.
  • Responds to questions and comments in a courteous and timely manner.
  • Communicates and coordinates regularly with appropriate personnel to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of operations and activities.
  • Performs other directly related duties consistent with the role.
