About The Position

Junior Counselors assists senior staff in supervising, leading, and engaging campers in fun, safe activities like crafts, sports, and games, focusing on building camper self-esteem while learning leadership under mentorship to prepare for future counselor roles, handling daily logistics, safety, and helping with overall camp operations. Position Dates: The summer camp season includes 5 days of pre-camp training that runs Monday, June 29 thru July 3, 2026 and 6 weeks of day camp that run from Monday thru Friday each week. Specific dates of camp are July 6 – August 14, 2026. Classification: Association Temp Program (non-exempt, not benefits eligible)

Requirements

  • 16 years of age or older
  • Positive, energetic, responsible, and good with children.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with Camp Directors, work as part of a team with all camp staff, campers and camp families
  • Incorporates Team Work and Flexibility into their daily work style
  • Ability to work with peers
  • Ability to resolve conflict
  • Ability to meet acceptable background check standards.
  • Ability to work flexible hours as appropriate.
  • Ability to meet travel requirements of the position.
  • Attend pre-camp training sessions.

Responsibilities

  • Camper Supervision & Engagement: Directly supervise campers, ensuring their safety and well-being, joining in activities, and creatively engaging them. Support and embrace diversity in all interactions with campers, other staff members, volunteers and parents. Implement programs that engage diverse backgrounds, interests and learning styles
  • Activity Support: Help senior counselors plan and run activities (nature, drama, sports, etc.), setting up/breaking down equipment, and leading smaller groups.
  • Role Modeling: Be a positive example in attitude, behavior, and following camp rules, including hygiene and schedules.
  • Operational Tasks: Assist with camp chores, organizing program areas, maintaining equipment, and helping with logistics like meals/allergies.
  • Mentorship: Receive guidance from older staff, learn leadership skills, and help manage camper behavior issues.
  • Safety & Procedures: Learn and enforce all camp safety guidelines, emergency procedures, and maintain constant camper awareness.
  • Other duties as assigned
