About The Position

Supports the administration of the retirement function for the Educational Employees Supplementary Retirement System of Fairfax County (ERFC) office; researches and provides specialized information regarding all ERFC retirement plans to retirement members; serves as a call center specialist to address immediate needs; executes tasks required to support retirement benefit eligibility, calculate payment estimates, and provide information on available benefit options; collaborates with members, within ERFC, and with the FCPS benefits team to gather information; participates in open houses and school visit initiatives.

Requirements

  • Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school or possession of a General Equivalency Diploma (GED) certificate.
  • Two (2) years of experience in business administration, customer services, and/or employee support operations.
  • Advanced degree(s) beyond the minimum degree requirement in a relevant field may be considered for some experience.
  • Knowledge of practices, procedures, and policies of the assigned office.
  • Familiarity with local, state, and federal laws.
  • Proficiency in the use of technology.
  • Ability to contribute to an organizational culture of client-centered service.
  • Ability to adhere to policy, process, and procedure.
  • Ability to deal quickly and accurately with quantitative information and verify correctness of actions.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to establish and maintain successful collaborative working relationships with diverse employees, retirees, and staff.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Responsibilities

  • Performs a variety of specialized operational, administrative, and technical tasks for ERFC employee and retiree retirement plans.
  • Processes transactions in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, policies, and mandates.
  • Applies retirement process, procedures, and requirements.
  • Serves as a retirement call center specialist and responds to immediate needs.
  • Researches and analyzes personnel data to determine eligibility or provide information about retirement benefit requirements.
  • Calculates retirement estimates based on review of personnel records, evaluation of service time, purchase of service considerations, and salary data.
  • Participates in virtual and in-person question sessions to provide services to ERFC members.
  • Works collaboratively within the ERFC team to address retirement needs.
  • Reviews applications required by retirement plans, ensuring the completion of all documentation.
  • Confirms applicable payroll information including associated tax withholding, deductions, and rollover information.
  • Participates in human resources benefits open houses and attends school/center visits to answer retirement questions.
  • Contacts and coordinates with the FCPS benefits office to provide information on other applicable benefit programs including health and life insurance, flexible spending accounts, and disability and leaves programs.
  • Composes correspondence citing applicable regulations or procedures, requesting missing documentation, and/or providing additional information on retirement benefits.
  • Participates in information technology systems testing.
  • Performs other related duties as required or assigned.
