The Retirement Systems Information Representative role at the New York State Comptroller's Office involves providing essential retirement information and consultations to members of the New York State and Local Retirement System. This position requires a strong understanding of retirement laws and regulations, as well as excellent communication skills to assist members effectively. The role includes conducting phone consultations, personal interviews, and presentations, while also participating in the development of informational materials and initiatives to improve service delivery.

  • Disseminate retirement information to members of the New York State and Local Retirement System.
  • Conduct phone consultations and respond to in-depth member questions in a Call Center environment.
  • Calculate benefit projections for potential retirees.
  • Assist staff during phone conversations to ensure timely service to members and retirees.
  • Conduct one-on-one consultations at the Buffalo Information Office and at various field locations.
  • Assist in the application and distribution of new retirement legislation and resulting rules and regulations.
  • Complete and approve email inquiries and written correspondence as necessary.
  • Develop informational materials and communicate changes in law, policy, or procedure to staff.
  • Participate in the development and improvement of infrastructure or special projects that support information programs.
  • Research and recommend new technologies for customer service improvement.
  • A bachelor's degree is required for all levels of the position.
  • For Trainee 2, one year of professional experience or a Juris Doctor, master's or higher degree in a related field is required.
  • For Retirement Systems Information Representative 1, two years of professional experience or a Juris Doctor, master's or higher degree in a related field and one year of professional experience is required.
  • Professional experience must include conducting retirement planning consultations, developing informational materials, and responding to inquiries.
  • Experience in a Call Center environment.
  • Knowledge of Retirement and Social Security law.
  • Familiarity with the PeopleSoft system and Retirement System's MEBEL database.
