About The Position

This position plays a vital role in promoting and embodying the mission, vision, and values of YUGM. This role is responsible for working with the processing management team and/or thrift directors to provide oversight and direction to staff, ensuring daily operations, goals, and projects are completed and that production expectations are met. Requirements

  • Experience in retail operations preferred.
  • Excellent math and money handling skills.
  • Ability to operate a cash register and credit card machine.
  • Ability to operate general office machines, copier, fax, printers, scanners.
  • Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must have a commitment to the mission of the Yakima Union Gospel Mission.
  • Must be a people person with a pleasant and willing attitude and have a servant’s heart.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Must possess a demonstrable level of skill and proficiency in planning so to meet established goals.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written or oral form.

Responsibilities

  • Uphold and promote YUGM’s Christian beliefs and behaviors, core values, policies, and procedures with a high-level of integrity.
  • Develop professional, caring, strengths-based relationships built on truth, respect, encouragement, and trust.
  • Provide ministry and show kindness and grace to staff, volunteers, clients, donors, and the community.
  • Support initiatives that foster a culture of services, compassion, and faith within the workplace.
  • Engage in opportunities to pray for individuals, departments, strategic plans and other YUGM needs.
  • Assist the Retail Management team in creating and sustaining a culture that “reveals Christ” to all staff, donors, and customers, in alignment with the company's mission and values.
  • Provide onsite supervision and support to retail staff, ensuring team members stay on task and complete assigned daily projects.
  • Work alongside managers to accomplish daily operational goals and maintain a positive, productive work environment.
  • Direct CJ (Community Jobs) workers and volunteers on the retail floor, as needed or assigned.
  • Assist cashiers in managing difficult customer interactions and resolving complaints in a Christ-honoring and professional manner.
  • Communicate all customer service concerns, register errors, employee incidents, or general operational issues to the Retail Manager to ensure timely and proper resolution in accordance with company policy.
  • Assist in overseeing cashier operations and customer transactions to ensure accuracy, promptness, and adherence to company policies.
  • Support register responsibilities, including: Opening and closing tills (morning, mid-day, and closing) Making change for tills Ensuring proper close-of-day procedures are followed Preparing and verifying deposit accuracy Maintaining sufficient change in the safe and making it available to cashiers Ensuring cash is never left unattended or unsecured
  • Identify and promptly report any accounting-related issues to management.
  • Support staff in maintaining the physical cleanliness and organization of the store on every shift, including: Restocking janitorial and restroom supplies Removing safety hazards Recovering merchandise and returning it to proper locations Cleaning parking lots, sidewalks, windows, doors, floors, breakrooms, and restrooms
  • Assist with stocking store shelves and clothing racks to optimize the customer shopping experience.
  • Under the guidance of Retail Management, help set up and change store displays to ensure a pleasant and engaging store environment.
  • Attend, as requested or required, all YUGM trainings and meetings scheduled by the management team to keep current on any policy changes, new procedures, and other information essential to performing the job.
  • Other duties as assigned in support of YUGM’s mission and values.
