About The Position

Retail Store Assistant Manager is responsible for the supporting the Retail Store Manager in proper and efficient operation of the store. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: In addition to the essential job functions described below, all associates will perform duties requested by management. Assigned responsibilities and duties may vary based upon location size and operation.

Requirements

  • Ability to read, understand, and write the English language at a high school level, including the ability to hear spoken work
  • Ability to perform arithmetical calculations at the eighth-grade level in order to be able to make change, complete shift reports, and account for numbers of a variety of products during vendor check-in
  • Have sufficient visual acuity to check identification.
  • Ability to read and understand instructions for operating electronic cash registers and other equipment
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds, carrying cases of soft drinks, juices, and other products
  • Ability to physically stock shelves and coolers
  • Ability to react to a fire by lifting a fire extinguisher weighing 20 pounds and moving it to the fire area
  • Ability to tolerate exposure to gasoline fumes and cleaning products
  • Ability to sweep and mop floors, dust shelves, and lift and carry out trash containers and place in an outside bin
  • Ability to clean the parking lot and grounds surrounding the convenience store
  • Ability to enter and work in a cooler at a temperature of 30 degrees and a freezer as low as 0 degrees up to 30 minutes at a time
  • Ability to change out reader board messages and gas prices on the price signs and marquees
  • Current, valid Driver's License
  • Current, valid state food handlers permit
  • Vision: minimum vision required to prevent injury from oneself and others
  • Hearing: perceiving the nature of sounds with or without correction
  • Talking: expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word
  • Lifting small, minimal weight objects constantly; 20-pound objects frequently and 20-50 pound objects occasionally
  • Climbing ladders, stairs and ramps
  • Balancing, pushing and pulling
  • Crouching, kneeling, reaching and grasping objects
  • Walking: move about inside the office and/or branch facilities
  • Sit/Stand: Must be able to remain in a standing position more than 75 percent of the time, much of the time in one place
  • Ability to drive safely
  • Attendance on a regular, consistent basis is mandatory, including arriving at the time as scheduled. The ability to cover shifts as needed is also required to keep store open during regular store hours
  • Must have strong Communication and Customer Service Skills.

  • Must have Open Availability including Weekends.
  • Must be able to be productive in a face paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting and generating customer sales
  • Supporting store profitability
  • Performing specific tasks assigned by manager
  • Giving all customers prompt and courteous service
  • Operating the register and related business machines
  • Accurate and on-time handling of cash and reporting in the absence of the manager
  • Checking in vendors and gas deliveries
  • Keeping store stocked based on customer needs
  • Covering shifts in partnership with the supervisor
  • Supporting inventory processes and/or counting of inventory
  • Supporting store manager
  • Advising store supervisor of any personnel situations or policy violations having an adverse effect on store operating performance
  • Controlling the inventory in the store
  • Following company policy and support of associates with regard to excessive cash in registers, change box, and safe security
  • Supporting the management of security access to building, drawers, safe, etc., as appropriate
  • Protecting all company assets at all times
  • Maintaining of coolers, shelves, displays, keeping product fronted
  • Properly cleaning and maintaining equipment with supervisor direction
  • Using correct pricing as listed in the price book or grocery catalog for all merchandise
  • Using plus-selling techniques as directed by supervisor
  • Keeping store, pumps, property cleaned and maintained, with associate support
  • Windows, floors, shelving, counters
  • Gas pumps
  • Trash
  • Property surrounding pumps and store
  • Checking and maintaining refrigeration equipment for proper performance
  • Maintaining pump receipt paper, towels, washer fluid
  • Scheduling associates in absence of the manager
  • Immediately advising supervisor of any significant maintenance problems
  • Reading the tank monitor and manually checking the fuel inventory tanks using a stick, should the tank monitor become inoperable
