About The Position

The Family Place empowers survivors of family violence by providing safe housing, counseling, and skills that create independence while building community engagement and advocating for social change to stop family violence. Position Summary: The Retail Shift Supervisor will support the Store Manager (SM) in managing the daily operations of the Resale Shop and acts as Manager on Duty in the absence of the SM. As Retail Shift Supervisor, you'll supervise team members and volunteers, manage merchandise flow from donation to sale, deliver exceptional customer service, handle cash operations, coordinate donor relations, and process vouchers that provide essential goods to domestic violence survivors. You'll model leadership excellence through active listening, clear communication, empathetic conflict resolution, and a positive, team-focused attitude. This role requires a self-motivated leader who can work independently, make sound decisions, train and develop staff, and create a welcoming retail environment that generates revenue to support survivors while directly serving clients through our voucher program. Every sale you facilitate, and every donor relationship you nurture, helps fund life-saving services for families escaping violence.

Requirements

  • High School diploma and at least 2 years of equivalent experience working in a retail environment, sorting merchandise, and assisting customers.
  • At least 1 year of experience in a Shift Supervisor position is required.
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License and a clear driving record.
  • Knowledge of basic retail store inventory, merchandising, and production.
  • Ability to organize, sort, and categorize items.
  • Ability to represent TFP positively by providing excellent customer service at all times and serving as a role model to staff and volunteers.
  • Ability to be a team player and have a friendly and engaging personality with customers and clients.
  • Ability to instruct new employees and/or volunteers in the operational procedures and explain the policies as related to the job, as requested.
  • Effective oral and written communication with staff, volunteers, and the public.
  • Ability to pick up and unload donations and work a flexible schedule.
  • Ability to run a cash register and perform all cash/check/credit card transactions.
  • Ability to work weekends.
  • Self-motivated and able to work with little supervision.
  • Retail staff should be able to be on their feet for most of the day and will be required to lift large amounts of stock.
  • Work may require pulling and carrying up to 50 pounds, frequent bending, climbing stairs, and reaching.

Responsibilities

  • Operations Management & Leadership Act as Key Holder with responsibility for opening and closing the shop on a regular basis.
  • Coordinate sales efforts, monitor inventory flow, and assist in assessing store operational needs.
  • Model exceptional leadership through active listening, clear communication, respectful conflict resolution, emotional intelligence, and a positive, team-focused attitude.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision, making sound operational decisions in a fast-paced retail environment.
  • Merchandise & Inventory Management Unload, receive, sort, and process donations for the sales floor.
  • Create attractive displays and maintain an organized, clean sales floor layout.
  • Oversee merchandise rotation to maximize sales and inventory turnover.
  • Coordinate pickup scheduling for donated items at donor locations.
  • Customer Service & Sales Deliver exceptional, timely customer service to shoppers, donors, clients, and community partners.
  • Assist with customer purchases, process returns, handle disputes, and resolve issues professionally.
  • Answer phones and correspondence in a courteous, professional manner.
  • Train and coach team members on customer service best practices and expectations.
  • Relieve team members at registers and the sales floor as needed to ensure seamless operations.
  • Work with clients and staff to process merchandise vouchers for domestic violence survivors with dignity and respect.
  • Team Development & Training Assist with new hire onboarding and ongoing employee training.
  • Ensure all store policies and procedures are followed.
  • Coach and support team members to build retail skills and mission understanding.
  • Cash Management & Financial Operations Perform cash handling, register reconciliation, credit card processing, and banking duties with accuracy and accountability.
  • Maintain secure cash management practices and investigate discrepancies.
  • Track financial data and prepare timely, accurate reports to support agency operations.
  • Donor Relations & Volunteer Management Serve as liaison between the shop and donors, maintaining positive relationships.
  • Interview, screen, and direct volunteer placements.
  • Communicate with community service organization liaisons.
  • Manage receipt, distribution, and reporting of donated goods.
  • Agency Support & Flexibility Support agency operations and participate in special events as needed.
  • Work weekends, evenings, and major holidays as outlined by agency needs.
  • Maintain flexibility to cover operational needs across varying schedules.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
