At Room & Board, our part-time Design/Retail Sales Associate role (3 days a week, 8-hour shifts including weekends) offers an amazing way to balance your current life’s work with a fulfilling part-time career. This role is ideal for someone who is energized by a fast-paced environment and thrives when navigating a wide range of customer interactions throughout each shift. Because of the volume and pace of our showroom, success in this role requires a high degree of self-direction, time management, and agility. You'll need to move seamlessly between customer conversations, project work, and independent tasks—making confident decisions about how to structure your time and where to focus your energy.

Requirements

  • A self-directed approach with the ability to manage your workflow, prioritize tasks, and stay productive during both high-traffic periods and quieter moments.
  • Strong time-management and agility, shifting smoothly between customer consultations, design work, follow-ups, and showroom activity in a fast-paced environment.
  • A commitment to serving customers through an individualized, consultative design approach, actively listening and offering thoughtful, tailored solutions.
  • Collaborative mindset with self-awareness, curiosity, and the ability to build strong relationships with both customers and colleagues in a non-commissioned environment.
  • Confidence using technology and digital tools—including iPads, floor planning software, and POS systems—to support design work and enhance the customer experience.
  • The physical and mental stamina to engage consistently with varying customer volumes while maintaining productivity throughout your shift.
  • A lifelong-learner mindset, continually seeking opportunities to grow your design knowledge and refine your skills.
  • 2+ years of experience working in a customer-centric, fashion/design-savvy retail environment with a passion for design and engaging with customers on the showroom floor.
  • You bring exceptional communication skills, demonstrated confidence, attention to detail, prioritization and organization skills, and a high level of comfort navigating technology and virtual resources. These attributes for success are captured in our Design Associate Profile.
  • Ability to provide proof of identity and legal work authorization upon hire.
