About The Position

The Retail Pharmacy Technician is responsible for supporting the pharmacists in their duties by providing technical assistance in accordance with department policy and Washington State Law. He/she maintains close working communication with pharmacists and the retail pharmacy supervisor regarding the various department programs. He/she facilitates departmental and hospital programs being carried out in accordance with regulatory agency requirements.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Basic typing ability preferred (30 wpm).
  • Current licensure by the Washington State Pharmacy Quality Assurance Commission (PQAC) as a Pharmacy Technician.
  • Retail pharmacy experience.
  • Previous retail pharmacy experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment and discretion, with good public relations and proper patient management skills, and the ability to maintain positive interpersonal relationships with fellow employees.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with the physical and emotional demands of a diverse population.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of patient information.
  • Ability to work with Microsoft Office Programs, Epic, and other pharmacy computer systems.
  • Must demonstrate teamwork.
  • Ability to multitask.

Responsibilities

  • Help providers and patients by greeting them in person and by phone; answering questions and requests or referring inquiries to the pharmacists.
  • Maintain a safe and clean pharmacy by complying with policies and procedures, in addition to federal and state rules and regulations.
  • Enter prescriptions with efficient and accuracy.
  • Resolve exceptions and issues in a timely manner.
  • Maintain an accurate pharmacy inventory.
  • Prepare medications for pharmacists to dispense for patients.
  • Ability to cashier.
  • Knowledge of the top 200 drugs.
  • Responsible for maintaining basic knowledge of current medications.
  • Responsible for making sure that pulling, packaging, ordering, restocking and rotating stock of medications is done daily.
  • Investigate patient and insurance calls regarding pharmacy billing.
  • Ability to file prescriptions in an organized manner.
  • Demonstrate understanding of how to compound medications.
