This job works hand in hand with ambulatory and clinical pharmacists, referring doctors, nursing staff and care coordinators by completing prior authorizations on behalf of the prescriber. Responsible for working directly with patients to determine eligibility for medication financial assistance programs; ensures patients receive timely access to their prescribed medications; and participates in special projects as needed. Requirements

  • Education Required - High School diploma or equivalent
  • Work Experience Required - 2 years experience as a Pharmacy Technician
  • Certifications Required - Current Pharmacy Technician Certificate in the State of Practice
  • Medication Therapy Management Certification (MTM) from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) must be obtained within 6 months of hire
  • Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of patient information.
  • Must be proficient with Windows-style applications and keyboard.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process.
  • Negotiation skills to assist the patient in navigation of the health care system.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to maintain highly confidential and sensitive information.
  • Ability to multitask.
  • Work independently and within a team.
  • Must be able to move throughout the department, the hospital, and between off-campus sites.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in prior authorizations process.
  • Enroll under/uninsured patients to appropriate patient assistance programs.
  • Acts as liaison between insurance company, patients, and physicians office.
  • Communicates information updating patients and providers on the status of completing the prescription fill.
  • Maintains documentation relative to the job.
  • Assumes responsibility for professional development and continued education.
  • Other related duties as required.
  • Remains knowledgeable on current federal, state and local laws, accreditation standards or regulatory agency requirements that apply to the assigned area of responsibility and ensures compliance with all such laws, regulations and standards.
