This Retail Pharmacy Intern position provides prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service. The intern will fill prescriptions in accordance with all state and federal statutes and regulations under the supervision of a registered pharmacist. The role emphasizes core competencies such as partnerships, a growth mindset, being results-oriented, customer-focused, and professionalism. Key responsibilities include assisting with inventory control, maintaining stock levels, checking invoices, and entering inventory data. The intern is expected to work collaboratively with co-workers, strictly adhering to standard operating procedures and facility policies, and reporting any medication errors. Maintaining the cleanliness of the pharmacy and dispensing area, upholding a professional appearance, and adhering to company policies are also crucial. The role requires maintaining the confidentiality of customer's private medical information as per HIPAA and safeguarding prescription drug pricing and costs.

Requirements

  • Must be 18+
  • Enrolled in accredited college of pharmacy
  • Registered with State Pharmacy Board as an intern
  • Six months or less of similar or related work experience
  • Ability to do logical or scientific thinking to solve problems; several abstract and concrete variables
  • Ability to compose original correspondence
  • Ability to follow technical manuals
  • Increased contact with people
  • Ability to interview counsel or advise people
  • Ability to evaluate technical data
  • Ability to do arithmetic calculations involving arithmetic, algebraic and geometric calculations
  • Ability to physically exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects
  • Visual requirements include clarity of vision at distances of more than 20 inches and less than 20 feet, and field of vision
  • Physical activity: Fingering, grasping, feeling, repetitive motions, talking, hearing, lifting, stooping, and reaching
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks (filling scripts, answering telephone, waiting on customers, etc.) every day
  • Maintain confidentiality of customer’s private medical information according to the HIPAA act
  • Maintain confidentiality of prescription drug pricing and costs
  • Successful completion of a pre employment drug screen

Responsibilities

  • Fills and helps process prescriptions
  • Provides prompt and efficient service
  • Assists with inventory control, maintaining inventory levels by ordering and stocking merchandise, checking invoices, and entering inventory information into the computer
  • Works with co-workers as a team to ensure strict adherence to standard operating procedures and facility policies
  • Prepares prescriptions
  • Reports any medication errors to appropriate personnel
  • Prepares and affixes labels to prescription containers
  • Assists in training employees
  • Assists with monthly inventory
  • Follows security and regulatory procedures including Quality Assurance Programs
  • Maintains cleanliness of pharmacy and dispensing area
  • Maintains a professional appearance
  • Adheres to company policies
  • Reports to work when scheduled and on time
  • Assists in other areas of the store as needed
  • Performs other job related duties and special projects as required
