About The Position

Belk offers talented and ambitious recent graduates the opportunity to work in multiple areas of our business. The Retail Development Program (RDP) is a fast-paced three-month program designed to prepare recent college graduates for a full-time role at Belk. We offer opportunities in several of our business functions including Merchandising, Planning, Supply Chain and more! The program focuses on key components to support your development: Education, Experience, Exposure, Innovation and Results. The Retail Development Program – Front-End Software Engineering will hire a class of program participants in our Charlotte, NC headquarters. RDPs are required to move and live in the Charlotte, NC Metro area with work-from-home flexibility.

Requirements

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States and not require work authorization sponsorship by Belk for this position now or in the future
  • Must have graduated within 6 months of May 2026 and be able to start full time in June 2026
  • Proven strong academic performer (GPA of 3.2 or higher preferred)
  • Relevant coursework, projects, or experience in design, programming, development, and implementation of highly scalable, high-volume software systems and components, client-facing web applications, and major Internet-oriented applications and systems
  • Front-end Programming Languages: JavaScript, HTML, CSS
  • Frameworks/Libraries: React, Vue, Tailwind CSS
  • Version Control: GitHub and Bitbucket for continuous deployment
  • Design Tools: Basic familiarity with Figma and reviewing UX mockups
  • Understanding how to optimize content and utilize caching strategies
  • Understanding of application lifecycle methodologies (e.g. agile, iterative)
  • Delivers results, adaptability, strong communication, teamwork, and a willingness to learn

Nice To Haves

  • Nice to have experience with e-commerce, SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and work samples or projects to show experience gained through coursework, hackathons, or personal development

Responsibilities

  • Assist in building web pages and interfaces using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
  • Work with modern front-end frameworks like React (Next.JS) and Vue.js to create dynamic and responsive components
  • Test and ensure compatibility across different mobile and desktop applications
  • Translate design wireframes into functional code
  • Identify and fix bugs in front-end code to improve performance and maintainability
  • Collaborate with back-end developers to integrate APIs and ensure seamless data flow
  • Stay up to date with emerging trends and technologies in front-end development and apply them under mentorship
  • Familiar with how to be efficient with resource usage (e.g., application impact on memory and CPU, caches appropriately, respectful of customer’s devices, etc.)
  • Basic understanding of how to optimize the delivery of code and assets (e.g., images, fonts) to a browser or device (e.g., lazy loading assets, using CDNs, caching, compression, etc.)
