About The Position

The Retail Clerk is responsible for supporting the daily retail operations of the thrift store by delivering high-quality customer service, accurately processing sales transactions, and assisting with merchandise handling. This position plays a key role in maintaining an organized, safe, and welcoming store environment while contributing to overall operational efficiency.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of retail, cashiering, or customer service experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in basic math and ability to operate a POS system accurately.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work effectively and patiently with individuals with developmental disabilities.
  • Demonstrated reliability, integrity, and adherence to ethical standards.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Frequent bending, reaching, twisting, and lifting.
  • Ability to lift and move items up to 50 pounds with or without assistance.
  • Must maintain alertness to ensure a safe environment for customers, staff, and program participants.
  • This position is designated as safety-sensitive and requires successful completion of all pre-employment screenings, including background checks, registry checks, and drug screening, in accordance with applicable laws and organizational policies.

Responsibilities

  • Provide professional and courteous customer service to shoppers and donors.
  • Operate point-of-sale (POS) systems, process transactions, and handle cash in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Receive, sort, price, and prepare donated goods for display and sale.
  • Stock shelves, hang clothing, and maintain visually appealing merchandise displays.
  • Maintain store cleanliness, organization, and safety through routine housekeeping tasks.
  • Respond to telephone inquiries and assist with scheduling donation pickups.
  • Support and guide program participants/trainees in completing assigned tasks, ensuring a respectful and inclusive environment.
  • Safeguard confidential information and comply with applicable privacy regulations, including HIPAA requirements when applicable.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support store operations.
