About The Position

The Restorative Practices (RP) Specialist will oversee the RP work in the elementary schools. This position is funded for two years. The Restorative Practices (RP) Specialist will be responsible for providing training, coaching, and support to middle schools that want to implement restorative practices into the classroom environment. They will facilitate building an emotionally safe environment through the use of evidence-based strategies to improve student engagement and conflict resolution. The ability to maintain the confidentiality of students, families and other professional information is essential in this position.

Requirements

  • Minimum Required: An Associate’s degree in Restorative Practices or a related field
  • Minimum Required: Two years of experience working in schools, community based organizations or non-profits.
  • Deep knowledge of Anti-Racism and white supremacy
  • Deep understanding of Equity and a desire to create equitable outcome for students
  • Deep knowledge of RP
  • Demonstrated experience developing and facilitating community partnerships
  • Demonstrated cultural competence working with diverse groups across race, ethnicity, religion, gender, class, and sexuality
  • Demonstrated success in program planning/management and training/coaching within a public education setting
  • Experience writing concise and accurate reports and records
  • Experience in conflict mediation and restorative practices facilitation
  • Understand and be able to use additional software, such as Google drive.
  • Possess excellent interpersonal skills and be able to work with a variety of individuals, regardless of their backgrounds and be able to engage with a diversity of opinions and perspectives.
  • Ability to lead, counsel, and supervise a variety of personnel and programs

Responsibilities

  • Infuse RP implementation with anti-racism and equity focus.
  • Help establish and maintain student support center RP procedures based on the school’s RP implementation continuum.
  • Oversee school-wide use of Tier 1 RP processes (frequency, circle topics, etc.) through informal classroom visits, walkthroughs, coaching, etc.
  • Support teachers in Tier 1 connection activities (games, etc.) and circle implementation through coaching, observation, and feedback.
  • Work with RP Elementary School Youth and Family Liaison to: Create systems to empower youth voice and agency in school-wide RP implementation Ensure continuity of RP implementation across schools Train and oversee youth circle facilitators
  • Facilitate Tier 1.5 and Tier 2 interventions with students, staff, and community members on an as-needed basis.
  • Provide timely communication with teachers, administrators, and families about incidents and restorative interventions taken, next steps, etc.
  • Routinely check-in with the administration to provide clear communication around ways the administration can support the advancement of RP work, building RP trends and/or concerns, etc.
  • Document all restorative interventions used with students (e.g., Tiers 1.5 and 2) within BSD data system.
  • Support and serve on school-based RP team, and communicate with other school teams as necessary.
  • Gather data and resources related to RP effectiveness, and share these data with all relevant stakeholders.
  • Work with the RP coordinator and other RP specialists to create methods to review and monitor school-based RP plans.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
