JOB SUMMARY: Provide personal care and assistance to residents as needed. Carry out procedures following proper instructions. Foster self-respect and a feeling of worth in each resident by providing consistent understanding and kindness in their care. Observe and report changes in residents’ physical and emotional condition to the Charge Nurse. Maintain an attractive, comfortable, and clean environment for the residents. Prevent spread of disease and infection by following established universal precautions. Attend staff meetings, classes and ongoing inservice programs to improve knowledge and skills. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (Other duties may be assigned.) § Assists the resident with or provides basic care needs: dressing, grooming, shampoos, shaving; oral care, nail care, skin care; bathing, including bed baths, tub baths, showers, and whirlpool baths. Encourages resident to participate to maximize independence. § Assists with ambulation: getting in and out of bed, transfer techniques, walking with/without assistive devices; use of wheelchairs; use of orthopedic appliances. § Assists with assistive devices for feeding as necessary. § Assists with or provides basic toileting care: ambulation to bathroom; use of bedpan, urinal, or bedside commode; bowel and/or bladder training; care of incontinent episodes; providing perineal care; measuring output; recording bowel movements, urination, emesis, drainage, etc. § Assists with or provides preventative care; prevention of decubitus ulcers, ROM exercises to prevent contractures; mental and physical stimulation to prevent disorders due to sensory deprivation. § Assists with or provides treatments and procedures when properly instructed by Restorative Nurse. Reports concerns, potential problems in a timely manner. § Demonstrates proficiency in motivating residents to participate in and complete restorative programs. § Interacts well with therapists and implements individual programs as developed. § Maintains equipment and supplies for treatment. § Maintains consistent patient care schedule and is efficient in use of time. Coordinates restorative treatment with other facility departments. § Attends weekly restorative staff meeting to review and discuss resident concerns and care plans. § Assures that established infection control and universal precautions are maintained when performing duties. § Maintains a professional attitude and appearance. § Supports facility’s goals and objectives. § Performs other duties as assigned.
