Canopy by Hilton, a contemporary boutique hotel located in downtown Grand Rapids, is on the lookout for a host/hostess to assist with guest service operations and barback support at Knoop, the hotel's exquisite rooftop cocktail lounge! Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent experience required.
  • 6 months + of experience working in a related position.
  • Outstanding customer service skills and ability to attend to guests and associates in an attentive, friendly, and courteous manner.
  • Must be able to speak, read, write and communicate in English to adequately perform the duties of the job.
  • Outstanding organizational and time management skills.
  • Must be energetic and able to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be detail-oriented and able to work both independently and with a team.
  • Must be able to show initiative, including anticipating guest or operational needs.
  • Must be able to work varying schedules that include evenings, weekends, holidays and extended hours as business dictates.
  • Satisfactory criminal background screening required - Valid driver’s license and safe driving record may be required

Responsibilities

  • Welcome guests and ascertain their dining needs.
  • Seat guests and manage the seating chart.
  • Receive incoming calls and provide information in a polite and professional manner.
  • Monitor restaurant activity to determine seating and dining flow.
  • Assist servers with table clearing, cleaning, and setting
  • Help maintain the bar's stock levels during service
  • Assist fellow team members and other departments wherever necessary
  • Perform opening and closing duties, as needed.
  • Completes side work to include polishing/rolling silverware, stocking condiments and glasses, sweeping and cleaning as directed by supervisor. Practices “clean as you go” method, and sanitation standards.
  • Ensure knowledge of menu and all food products.
  • Follow proper cashiering functions by completing/closing guest checks and submitting information into POS system.
