About The Position
Founded in 1901, The Virginia Zoo is located in Norfolk, VA and is home to more than 700 animals representing over 150 species. It resides on 53 acres and is mostly outdoors with an indoor World of Reptiles exhibit, 3 classrooms, and an indoor restaurant and gift shop. As the Restaurant/Events Associate, you will contribute to making each event at the Virginia Zoo memorable by delivering excellent customer service. You will assist with the set up and breakdown of various Food Services department equipment (Such as tables, bartending stations, Buffet and serving trays) used at events at the Virginia Zoo. This position will also assist in the restaurant, Beastro, and Mini Melts Kiosk by assisting as a backup Food Services Associate as needed. This is a non-exempt hourly seasonal position. Hours vary based on events. Position reports to Food Services Manager.
Requirements
- 1 year experience working in fast food, banquet serving or catering preferred.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Ability to work efficiently and quickly.
- Ability to traverse all parts of the restaurant quickly.
- Prolonged periods of walking and standing.
- Must be able to lift 25 pounds at times and 50 pounds with assistance.
- Ability to maintain a professional appearance and manner in a face paced environment.
- Ability to work well in a team environment.
- Must be able to obtain a Food Handlers card within 14 days of hire.
Responsibilities
- Provide prompt and courteous service to guests.
- Complete set up and breakdown of Food Services department equipment.
- Perform general cleaning and sanitizing tasks throughout assigned food service areas.
- Operate point of sale system to complete food services transactions.
- Contribute to providing excellent customer service by serving food to guests.
- Collect payments by accepting cash or charge payments and make change for customers.
- Restock food and beverage coolers to ensure product availability for guests.
- May operate in African Village Restaurant, Beastro, and Mini Melts Kiosk when needed.
- Provide excellent customer service at bartending stations during events.
- Contribute to maintaining an organized and clean event storage designated areas utilized by Food Services department.
- Other duties as assigned.
