This isn't a desk job—you'll be hands-on, maintaining facilities, assisting visitors, and keeping this scenic rest area in top share. Located on US 97 just south of Klamath Falls, this scenic rest area is surrounded by breathtaking landscapes and open skies. A key stop for truckers, tourists, and road-trippers, it offers a peaceful break along the route through Oregon's high desert.   • Inspect and maintain facilities and grounds to keep them clean, safe, and functional.
  • Handle janitorial tasks, landscaping, and minor repairs.
  • Operate snow removal and maintenance equipment as needed.
  • Coordinate work with contractors and fill-in staff.
  • Engage with travelers, providing assistance and ensuring compliance with site rules.
  • Communicate effectively with staff, partners, and public agencies to keep operations running smoothly.
  • Six months of experience operating heavy or light motorized equipment, using hand and power tools, performing minor servicing of equipment, general landscaping, maintenance, mechanical, farming, logging, and/or construction experience, or training.
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver's license issued by the state where the employee resides.
  • Obtain and maintain First Aid/CPR certification and Bloodborne Pathogens training from an agency-accepted certification authority.
  • Candidates must reside within a 60-minute travel distance to the Rest Area to ensure timely response to on-call emergencies.
  • Experience performing basic plumbing, carpentry, electrical work, painting, cleaning, and landscaping.
  • Experience using snow blowers and snowplows for snow removal and knowledge of how to operate irrigation systems.
  • Knowledge of state and federal safety regulations, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe work practices.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing.
  • Experience providing excellent customer service in a professional or volunteer setting.
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office programs like email, spreadsheets, and word documents to help with reports and record-keeping.
  • Proven ability to manage tasks, meet deadlines, and stay organized in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience training or guiding team members on safe work procedures and proper equipment use.
  • Agency provided vehicle for travel to and from worksite.
