About The Position

This role supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a single-configuration, heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle capable of routinely carrying people and payloads to low-Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar, and beyond. Its first stage is fully reusable, and the vehicle was designed from the beginning to be human-capable. As part of a small, passionate, and accomplished team of experts, you will be responsible for developing and qualifying avionic hardware products in support of New Glenn mission. You will have full responsibility for hardware development, coordinating with other cross-functional team to assure successful qualification per company and industry standards to produce reliable flight hardware for re-usable launch vehicles. As a Responsible Engineer (RE) for avionics hardware, you are responsible for all aspects of the product design, development, qualification, and hardware production. You will:

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering or related field with 5+ years of direct experience in electronics hardware development
  • Experience with power conversion and vehicle power distribution design topologies and high voltage electronics
  • Experience with conducted and radiated emission requirements
  • Familiar with fault tolerant and high reliability systems
  • Familiar with testing and qualifying hardware per standards like MIL-STD-1540, DO-160, or SMC-S-016
  • Hands-on experience with the understanding of full product development lifecycle of electronics hardware
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team on rapid development programs
  • Highly organized team player with excellent technical communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Ability to travel to and work at remote sites supporting test integration, commissioning, and training

Nice To Haves

  • Graduate degree in electrical or aerospace engineering or a related field
  • 7+ years of recent electronics or power systems development for hardware used in harsh or space environments
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of power conversion design topologies, high voltage and high-power electronics, grounding, and analog circuit design
  • Strong understanding of electronics design and integration with mechanical systems for structural and thermal support
  • Experience using Altium (or similar tools) for schematic capture and layout.
  • Experience using LTspice (or similar tools) for circuit simulations.
  • EMI/EMC standards, IEC & automotive standards or equivalent
  • Experience with safety-critical systems development (automotive, aerospace, medical, etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Develop, manage, and maintain a full system design and its associated documentation (CAD, drawings, ICDs, BOMs, etc)
  • Provide technical support during flight build, test, and delivery to other areas of the technical execution team
  • Work closely with the program and manufacturing team through build, test, and delivery of flight hardware.
  • Support the development of the Automated Test Equipment and transition of the product from development to production release.
  • Support the development of the hardware requirements, test plans and procedures in compliance with company and industry standards.
  • Be responsible for the successful qualification of the hardware.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert for integration into the vehicle and assist in troubleshooting and vehicle integration.
