The Operations & Facilities Management Department (OFMD) at WashU Medicine provides essential services that sustain the medical campus’ mission of excellence in patient care, research, and education. Serves as an unarmed, back-up/assistant to Response Officer II or Lead Officer when responding to life safety and protection of property, and emergency and non-emergency incidents on campus. Includes rendering emergency medical assistance or general first aid. Enforces University policy/procedures and criminal law. May be assigned to vehicle or foot patrol, as part of a unified team. Must be prepared to handle a variety of complex, ever-changing situations. Needs to be able to utilize a variety of tools and techniques to resolve situations and accurately and thoroughly record information for the official University record.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent high school certification or combination of education and/or experience.
  • St. Louis Metropolitan Security License - St. Louis City/St. Louis County, St. Louis Metropolitan Security License - within 30 days of hire - St. Louis City/St. Louis County
  • Officer In An Academic Or Other Professional Environment (1 Year)
  • A Class E (MO) or Class D (IL) license and a good driving record are required for this position.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a St. Louis Metropolitan Security License within 30 days of hire.
  • Must obtain and maintain a Missouri Class E or Illinois Class D Driver’s license within 30 days of hire.
  • Obtain and maintain certification for Taser, OC Spray, Collapsible Baton, and Handcuffs.
  • Applicants with a security license may already have these endorsements listed on their license and will be required to transfer to WashU.
  • If no previous departmental psychological assessment has been completed by the individual, a psychological assessment will be necessary for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Responds or reacts as a team member to emergency and non-emergency incidents (medical, law enforcement, injury/accident, et al) on campus. Takes action, or makes notes for follow-up, of any safety and security issues. Provides Emergency Management support during larger-scale incidents. When not on assignment, patrols the University properties.
  • Receives/compiles information for incident reports and conducts initial and follow-up investigations, as assigned, under the direction of an RO II or Lead Officer.
  • Conducts building checks which include checking access control devices, door locks and proactively looking for any possible safety or security hazard. Uses problem-solving skills to resolve issues found during building checks.
  • Provides necessary follow-up (transports to the medical facility, notifies proper authorities, and undertakes any other necessary coordination) for faculty, staff, students, and visitors after immediate resolution of an incident.
  • Assists Medical Center personnel and visitors with directions and provides escorts when requested. Partners with customers in assigned geographical areas and assists them in resolving multi-department issues.
  • May serve as an instructor for skills training and certifications.
  • Takes possession of found property, attempting to locate the owner, and securing property according to established procedure.
  • Enforces parking regulations and provides support to the Transportation Office as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
