About The Position

We seek a compassionate and dedicated Respite Provider to provide supportive and enriching care for children ages 5-22 with intellectual, developmental and other disabilities, helping them stay safe, active, and comfortable at home. You will work 1:1 with Individuals and their families, supporting their progress both at home and in the community. Location: On-site in family home. Current Openings: Positions are currently available in the following Massachusetts communities: Ipswich Lawrence Methuen Peabody Salisbury Schedule: 3 - 6 hours weekly based upon schedule agreed upon with family and supervisor. Compensation: This is a non-exempt, per diem position. The hourly rate is $21.00. You will be a union member to SEIU Local 509.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • At least 2 years’ experience working with persons with disabilities preferred.
  • Specific clinical skills in specialized areas (hearing, visually, physically impaired, behavior management, medical needs, crisis intervention etc.) a plus.
  • Candidates must be able to read, write, and comprehend English to accurately follow support plans, document services provided, and communicate effectively with individuals, families, staff and healthcare professionals.
  • Minimum of one year of driving experience and a valid driver’s license in good standing.

Nice To Haves

  • Specific clinical skills in specialized areas (hearing, visually, physically impaired, behavior management, medical needs, crisis intervention etc.) a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a safe and positive environment where consumers can explore new pastimes and are offered opportunities for growth and develop social skills.
  • Implement activities in the community, promoting an atmosphere of acceptance where consumers are welcomed and present a positive image to the greater community.
  • Encourage and promote self-advocacy skills.
  • Interact with families in a profession, courteous manner.
  • Act as a liaison between families and program staff. Educate families around program and community resources. Ensure requests for supports, respite agreements and/or other miscellaneous paperwork is completed and submitted in a timely manner.
  • Encourage age-appropriate, normalizing behavior in a sensitive and caring manner through modeling, redirection and conversation.
