About the position

The Respiratory Therapy Student opportunity at Mass General Brigham Salem Hospital is designed for individuals who are responsible for acquiring knowledge and developing the necessary skills to become a respiratory therapist. This role works with licensed respiratory therapists to expand the respiratory therapy skillset. The position requires patient care and involves attending lectures, participating in laboratory sessions, and studying the theory and practice of respiratory therapy. Students will observe and shadow licensed respiratory therapists in various clinical settings to gain firsthand experience in applying theoretical concepts to real-life patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Acquire knowledge and develop the necessary skills to become a qualified respiratory therapist.
  • Attend lectures and participate in laboratory sessions.
  • Observe and shadow licensed respiratory therapists in various clinical settings.
  • Conduct patient assessments under the supervision of a licensed respiratory therapist.
  • Assist in developing and implementing respiratory care plans for patients.
  • Monitor patients' responses to respiratory interventions and adjust treatments accordingly.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including progress notes and treatment plans.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
  • Completed prerequisite courses such as anatomy, biology, chemistry, etc.
  • 0-1 year of experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology of the respiratory system.
  • Knowledge of respiratory therapy techniques and equipment.
  • Willingness to learn.
  • Ability to perform patient assessments and monitor patient progress.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to adapt in changing situations and respond appropriately in emergency situations.
