About The Position

The position serves as a bridge to augment the growth of the respiratory student, transitioning from the student role to that of a novice respiratory therapist. Under the observation of a licensed respiratory therapist, the incumbent may perform routine and basic level respiratory therapy procedures including oxygen therapy, pulse oximetry, aerosol therapy, and incentive spirometry. Responsibilities also include organizing and maintaining the supply of respiratory therapy equipment and supplies, collecting and cleaning equipment, processing disposable/non-disposable equipment based on infection prevention guidelines, and completing annual hospital competencies. The role requires learning new equipment, supplies, procedures, and processes as needed to perform the job appropriately. Additionally, the position involves various patient positioning and transporting duties, which require lifting and pushing/pulling while utilizing proper technique. The incumbent must demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served, and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to their age-specific needs.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited or approved program in Respiratory Therapy.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • No prior experience required.

Responsibilities
